Is the coin pure silver? I'm looking one for a friend and he does not want the copper showing on the side.

it has silver in it, about 40% silver in content. the rest of the coin has copper content. the copper will show on the sides. try to get a Kennedy half-dollar from 1964, will be a better choice.

Does this come in a tamper proof or protective case to avoidmscratches, if it does not cancel this order.

As Holly said, I ship these coins in a plastic flip, then seal each flip within a small corrugated cardboard mailer. The coin will come to you in the same condition as when I put it in the mail.
