Needs a "stereo booster" to see the lights on home AVRs
Works EXCELLENT ... *BUT* For typical home AVRs you need a "stereo signal boost" like the Douk Audio L1 Mini Stereo Line Level Booster. These various DB meters/devices on Amazon are typically configured for professional level audio equipment that works with a more powerful audio signal. Many buyers here claim that you need to turn the volume up high to see the lights. NOT NECESSARY! Get the Douk product. Setup: Connect the Douk to the PRE-AMP Out RCAs (not speaker posts) for the speakers you want visualize (Zone 2 works, too), then connect DB30 to the Douk Out RCAs. That should do it. For detailed help for your specific stereo, plug your AVR model number into a Gemini conversation window and tell Gemini what you're trying to do. Gemini will walk you through the correct AVR settings, for your equipment, to get the best results. Great light show for $100 (both DB30+Douk L1).

Works Flawlessly
I have two of these. One is connected to a vintage tape recorder, and the other is connected to an equalizer in line with my laptop which is connected to a pair of powered speakers. They both are still working flawlessly after hundreds of hours of use.

Here's the deal
The other reviews are correct, it takes some noise to get the bars to register. If you are playing with headphones, this will NOT be an issue, as the headphone levels easily satisfy the DB threshold requirements to get the lights to work. If you are playing with speakers, you might have to get a little loud for it to show up. You theoretically could connect the input for this from a multi-channel amplifier, amp this channel to max, and just not have any output for this particular channel.

Works, but could be better.
I bought this to help me with audio mastering in my home studio. It works exactly as described, but might be a little more useful is the response time were slower. The meter moves so much that it is hard to figure out what the average level is. Still, it is useful to see peak volumes. For the money, you are not going to find anything better.

Useless garbage that isn't even close to an accurate reading
Bought the Technical Pro DB30 to mount above my Fun Generation RTA-31. For starters, the DB30 doesn't come with the rack ears mounted, so you have to screw those on yourself. Not a big deal, but I'm not sure who would use this without a rack case since it's not the correct depth to be used in a component system. Second, its accuracy is not only BAD, it barely works at all. It randomly peaks for no apparent reason even when the signal being sent through has no difference in velocity/volume. This thing really is garbage, which is a shame since it could actually be useful if it worked as advertised.

not a true VU; pretty lights; rack mount woes
Just got this and installed it so these are just first impressions. First, it's a great light show, depending how dark your studio is the lights may be too bright (wish they had a knob to control brightness), but the colors are great; even the red is not too intense. Second, as others note, it's not accurate in any way; I assume it's just measuring power; either way there are fine tuning adjustment screws that you can use to adjust it to your taste, but it's not really going to tell you when clipping starts or anything specific. Third, it's a pain in the butt to get into its 1U rack space unless you have empty slots above and below it. There are plastic feet that must be removed first (took me a little force), and even then it's a super tight fit. They could've reduced the height by a millimeter and it would have been fine but I had to basically disconnect my 3U rack entirely and put it upright on the floor to wedge the unit in with 2 other units in there already. But it does fit, and once in place looks great, so I'll be keeping it unless something goes wrong. For like $65 it's a good deal if this is something you want, just don't expect accuracy or anything too fancy.

Not sure what to say
When sitting on a level spot there is quite a wobble , the chassis os bent a little. Upon testing it works as stated, I have not checked its accuracy. The plastic power switch looks fatigued or faded/stained in some way. Whatever it is in the plastic resin the marks dont clean off. The unit came bent and looking at the dented box i see why. It was not double boxed wich is always nice for privacy reasons. I will be reaching out to thr seller for a partial refund.

Kinda nice, but could be better.
It does work and it is easy to install, but I would have expected the off switch to shut off all the plug on the back, so that I could stop all my system at once, Like a real power bar does.
