Nice and clean look, doesn't harbor smells, easy to clean.
I was looking for a composting container to hold food scraps until they go out to the compost area outside. I wanted something big enough for the 2 of us for 5 days to a week but not so big that it took up a ton of space. This seems to fill the bill. I got the 4 Liter/1 gal SLIM LINE design so that I could put it into my sink while peeling veggies and still have room beside it to rinse the veggies and also so that I could mount it on the inside of the cabinet door under the sink when meal prep was complete. So far it has performed well. It holds enough veggie scraps during meal preps for the entire week, and I have not smelled any odors coming from it when the lid is closed. If I throw onion trimmings into it there is a strong onion smell for a while when the lid is open but after an hour nothing smells. I have not used the biodegradable bags for it since by the time we empty it after a number of days they would have already degraded. This means that the emptying process is a bit messy. BUT the little bin does clean up easily and so far I have noticed no stains. At present it has remained in my 2nd sink (I have a small sink in my island) until we finish installing our water filter under that sink. There will be room, but I want to optimize the space so am waiting until the filter system is fully installed, probably in about a month. (We are waiting for our contractor to do the installation.) I am pleased with this purchase. The quality and design of this is EXCELLENT, not a cheap looking or feeling product, well designed and it comes with a bracket to attach to the inside of the cabinet door which makes the bin easy to slide onto and take off the door when needed. I'm looking forward to many years of service of this little bin!

Good design
I was using an old ice bucket lined with a grocery bag for kitchen scraps previously which I thought was fine. But then I got this. This design is much better than my garage sale ice bucket; specifically, that this is as wide as a dinner plate makes for easier corralling of scraps. The vent holes that can be open or closed to prevent condensation or odors are handy. Perhaps a bit pricey for a handled plastic container with vent holes but a very good design.

Great item
In our community, we are required to recycle table scraps. So this has become a staple in my kitchen. I did mount it on the inside of the cabinet under my sink so it was more accessible for frequent use and it fits nicely. I found that the compostable bags that my grocery store offers for vegetables and fruits fit nicely on the inside of this item. So that saves me money. I like that it’s easy to wash and very helpful in my daily routine.

smart design. overcomes the flaws of most others i've tried
I admittedly haven't always been the best composter, so i will share what helped re-form my habits in hopes it helps someone else build better habits. why did i suck so bad at composting? bad reason... because I've always disliked my compost containers. too big... too small... too tall... too hard to open.. too inconvenient... too smelly... dumb shape/size... too many flies... too ugly... you name it, not a good excuse, but for me it's hard to re-form habits if the solution doesn't fit into the workflow well and causes frustration. i've tried tall garbage can ones, pretty ceramic ones, a bowl on the counter, a bucket with a screw lid, a stainless food insert form the restaurant with a lid, all had significant (enough) problems that would lead to frustration when the time came to use. so I'd do it, but kinda half-assedly. recently tho, I got this handy little bin and it's really been a game changer in re-forming my habits. why do i like it so much?... it's a good size, 1 gal. not too big that you put off dumping it in a timely manner but not so small that you can't cook anything without filling it up. and if your're cooking so much one day that it is actually too small, then i just keep a bowl on the counter just for the day's cook and dump it right away. it's narrow, wide and deep, which is nice because it doesn't take up much room on the counter and it's width makes it nice for scraping off plates. but its not so deep its uncomfortably high like many of the ones on the market. and not so deep you're grossed out pushing down the contents to make more room. if you don't like it on the counter, it has a nifty handy hanging bracket so you can put it behind a cabinet door or the side of an island. the handle makes it quick to grab to bring to the counter when you're doing a cooking project and quick to put back out of sight when you don't want the clutter. this is a big one for me.. it has a flip lid, so you don't have to put the gross, wet, bacteria laden lid on the countertop. it's easy to open with your hand or the rim of a plate and since its attached, frees up both hands for scraping. you can use it with or without a liner. the bags that it uses are on the spendy side, but the composable meat and produce bags at trader joe's (maybe elsewhere) fit perfectly so at least you can get double use of them (and they're free). other cheap bags probly work too but might be too big which brings it's own set of problems. so i buy theirs and fill in with the free ones from trader joes when i have'em on hand. the removable lid conceals the bag overhang, keeps the bag in place and makes it easy to clean. easy to wash. does NOT have a filter. I do NOT like ones with filters. filters provides a nice nesting medium for fly larvae and breeding ground for bacteria with will just make it stink up faster in the first place.the nice thing about models with filters is that they allow airflow, which keeps the moisture down, which slows down the bacterial growth. but they don't really do this enough to overcome the bigger flaws. this one has a little slider, so if you want air movement, you can slide it open, but i find that the bin is a small enough size and doesn't necesitate worrying about this so i keep it closed. durable. reasonable price... @$20 it's more than a bucket, but less than some i've looked at. i am more than happy to spend a little more on something that is well designed and more likely to be used.they make two versions. the one i'm yappin' about is the door mountable one. the other one is a squarer countertop one with a filter. that one is NOT the one i recommend.

I’d been looking for a smaller food caddy on and off for around a week. I’m sick of my Council issue one which is too big, brown, very ugly and takes up a lot of space. This JJ one was the exact size I was looking for…..a small rectangular one which took up less space. I was battling with myself a bit, trying hard to wrestle and justify it to myself spending nearly “30 QUID” on a food caddy/bin which just gets stinky scrap food in it. It was a difficult one and it is HUGELY expensive for what it is….but I did buy one in the end as it matched my requirements exactly and the measurements were spot on for my sink cupboard and the arrangement within it. I bit the bullet and got the grey one to match my external door fronts, also thinking the dark grey would show up less food, marks and spills to the white one. The bug-bear here was the grey was £5 more than the white!!!! Grrrr WHY!!! Anyway, that annoyance aside, I’m so glad i got it and took the hit of £29.99. It’s super brilliant. Such excellent quality and the perfect size. Be careful before mounting it on the inside of your cupboard for obstructions such as the sink bowl coming into the cupboard (like mine) and any pipe work (which didn’t affect mine). THe screw supplied was smaller than the width of my kitchen door so there was no fear the the screw going to far in and damaging the outside laminate of the cupboard front. Take care when screwing them in though. Just as a precaution. Mine were fine. I continue to use the Lidl food caddy bags in mine as that’s what I used in my ugly Council food bin. I find the Lidl ones one of the better supermarket brands for size and strength. Yes they’re a little too deep for the JJ caddy but there’s plenty of width to them to push the bags into the corners of the caddy. The Joseph Joseph caddy liners are a ridiculous price, and won’t be buying those. The lid of this caddy comes off completely so you can fold it down the sides, then clamp it in place with the caddy lid. The caddy then hooks on and off its mount within the cupboard really easily. It’s only me and my husband at home now, so this caddy is plenty big enough for our food waste. Especially where we’re making a very conscious effort not to throw food away and have waste as its all so expensive now. I also like that its smaller as it encourages me to empty it more frequently…rather than have a bigger bin that more fits in then 9/10 the bags spilt and stinky food goes everywhere. The bin being smaller is another advantage. It fits very neat and natty in the cupboard allowing more a lot more storage space for other things. Its Bye bye horrid ugly brown council bin. Yes this is expensive and hard to justify on such a small bin….but it is absolutely brilliant. Perfect in every way. Because i love it so much its been justified.
