So this is a CLASSIC waffle maker, NOT a Belgian waffle maker; correct? I want old fashined waffles NOT cake like waffles Belgians remind me of.

This makes a thinner waffle which I prefer. I have never had a problem with the batter pouring out the sides...just don't overfill it. I love this waffle maker.

Here's a cleaning tip. Use very damp paper towel in between the hot plates and let it steam the stuck batter loose. Works well for me.

I have two Belgian waffle makers right now and am looking for one that makes a shallower waffle so I can use it as breads for like Grilled Cheese and burgers. Is this a deep pocket waffle maker or a more traditional shallow/smaller waffle maker?

Cuisinart waffle maker makes a much thinner, crisper waffle. The total thickness of the waffle is about a half an inch after cooking. If you want crisp waffles, make the batter a little thinner than usual. I haven't tried to toast bread in it, but it is wonderful for making cookies on hot summer day. Spray or oil waffle maker. Spoon one normal-sized lump of cookie dough in the center of each of the four squares. Press lid down and cook for 1 minute, until lightly browned. If you are using nuts in the recipe, press lid down firmly and cook for 1 minute, 15 seconds. Fold a paper towel in half several times to make a pad, and use a fork to lift the cookie onto the pad, then onto a cooling rack. It works for most kinds of drop cookies.

How many minutes does it take to make a waffle with this machine?

For some reason, mine is very fast, no more than a minute even on setting five. It came today and I've only used it once so far so maybe that's it.
