I absolutely love these Scholastic Leveled Readers! I originally got them for my 5-year-old niece, but I've also used the same sets with both my daughters, and they've always been a hit. What I really appreciate about this set is how well each level builds on the last. It's truly guided reading at its best, slowly introducing and reinforcing new phonics and reading skills. The books are the perfect length too – short enough to keep little ones engaged without them losing interest, but long enough to actually develop those crucial reading skills. A super fun bonus feature is that kids can color in the books! It adds another layer of interaction and makes them even more appealing. If you're looking for a great way to support your child's early reading journey, you really can't go wrong with these. Review: Nice collection of early readers - The books are small and as pictured in the description (colored cover). The stories are super short and for young readers perfect. Reading is a journey and each of these books introduces words that are above their level, which is great. The drawn pictures inside are black and white and illustrate what the words say below which also is very helpful to the reader for some of those harder words. They are about the size of your hand and a great size for little children. If anyone is giving these books bad reviews, they are probably looking for higher levels for advance reading- these are perfect for the level and length of beginners. If the black and white is to bothersome - color them in or have you child do so. If the front cover is faded - you got a bad batch. These are nice quick reads that will have your child excited for reading instead of hating it. Learning to read should be as stress free as possible and sometimes a little easy reader to reinforce what they know is just what they need to boost confidence and enjoy reading.

Must buy for toddlers !
Simple cute little books . My child doesn’t have a long attention span and I notice with the shorter sentences he tends to pay closer attention. love them so adorable !

Awesome amount of books for the price.
I really like that it's 60 books for a reasonable price. Mine didn't come in a plastic bag like I saw others did, which makes me wonder if they were used. They are way smaller than I thought they would be but that's not a huge deal. The pictures aren't colored which is fine because my daughter wants to color them. Group A is a little too easy for my 1st grader but hopefully they get more challenging as we go on.

Appropriately Leveled
I bought these for our community library, and even gave a few to a friend's daughter. They're colorful, appropriately leveled, and small enough that the children can easily carry a few with them. I'm seeing the children read, and reread, with enthusiasm, gaining prosody, as they practice.

The size is great for her little-ish hands
I don't normally leave feedback, but in this case I thought I should. I read a lot of the reviews for this product on amazon and I think some of the negative comments may discourage people from buying these books - I know I almost didn't buy them. It turns out that many of the negative feedback that I saw (books are too small, stories are too short, black and white pictures only) turned out to be fabulous positives for my daughter. The size is great for her little-ish hands, the stories are short enough to keep her attention for the purpose (engage her in the print and the story), the word use within the stories (repeating, rhyming, themed) are helping her learn to recognize sounds and letters, and the black and white illustrations keep it simple and are not distracting - I like how she looks at the letters as I'm running my finger along the bottom of words. She certainly did comment on the fact that the images were black and white, and not in color, but I took the queue from another reviewer and told my daughter that we could color the pictures any time she wanted to, and that was sufficient for us to move on with the reading. I have to say I am 100% happy with this purchase and I think the books will be very helpful in turning my daughter into a reader. I'm glad I read the positive reviews, otherwise I would have missed out on these awesome teaching tools.

Perfect for beginning readers! What they use in schools!
In my daughter's kindergarten class, her teacher would send books home to practice with depending on grade level, and since my kid would forget to bring her book baggie home all the time, it was helpful to have these at home. Her teacher used these exact books in her class, so there was continuity at home, and my daughter went from not being able to read at all, to reading the D leveled books with no problem. We've got a few weeks left and her teacher told us she can move onto E books, and that we should continue practicing with C's and D's over the summer just to keep her brain active and she can remember all the reading strategies they've learned throughout the year. For the people complaining that they are tiny and thin, and that the illustrations are lacking--these books are perfect for beginning readers. There aren't any distractions from complicated pictures, and the pictures are simple enough so the kid can pick out their "picture clues", and then go back to focusing on the words. If you are unfamiliar with leveled readers, I can see why you might be disappointed, but if you want simple books that will actually help your child learn to read, these are perfect, especially for the price. I'm only wishing I could find such a large box of E-F readers, but they seem to go up to $1/book and are sold in smaller packs. Do yourself a favor, get these, and practice every night. You'll have a fully independent reader in just a few months, and boy will you be proud!

Coloring
These are cute and a lot in the package, but the stories are very short and are probably better for coloring.

only complaint is the pictures are all black and white like a coloring book would be. kinda hard for little ones to keep attention on story.
