A lovely little book. Full of interesting calligraphy styles to try, with picture examples of the whole alphabet in each style, plus tips about equipment and technique. I bought it purely for the information but am pleasantly surprised by what an attractive volume it is, and the spiral binding makes it easy to leave on one page flat and without damaging the spine, which is thoughtful attention to detail. I'll get lots of joy out of this book.

This book was great to get an idea of the basics, I think more detail could have been included for sentence writing but all in all a great starting point for anyone wanting to learn calligraphy

Bought as a present, did not study it all!

This is a collection of hands/alphabets ordered historically as they evolved. There is an introduction section with tips and explaining materials and techniques and the basics of the art, i.e. pen angle, pen widths, etc . Then it goes onto showing a well printed alphabet sample with instructions on how to write each letter, each trace marked with a number which I think it's enough to understand the structure of each letter. It also provides information on pen angle, some specific characteristics of each style, and all that in two pages per hand, so although seems not much it's succinct, short, clear and concise.

I didn't realise this was a small book when I ordered it. I didn't need to worry though as it's packed with information. It's a very enjoyable and useful book

This book is a gold mine! As a complete beginner, I appreciate the diversity of fonts, the clarity of instructions, and options/tips for getting started. Things are laid out so simply, I don't feel intimidated by any of the styles or concepts

Ho da poco iniziato a interessarmi di calligrafia, e questo manuale, interamente in lingua inglese, si è rivelato utilissimo. Gli argomenti trattati sono chiari e semplici, ci sono circa un centinaio di stili calligrafici da cui imparare o prendere spunto, per i quali l'autore fornisce cenni storici, varianti stilistiche e indicazioni più che esaustivi sulla formazione dei tratti.
