Interesting and Informative
We purchased this book when our son was in preschool. Now, approaching 3rd grade, he still enjoys taking this one out periodically. He remembers facts and ideas about the astronauts and the space program. It is not a short read-aloud book and is definitely intended for children who can absorb larger nonfiction material. I highly recommend it to parents whose children are just beginning to learn about and have questions related to the first trip to the moon.

a good book for kids.
My 3rd grader needed these for a school reading project. He found out he was fascinated by the space program, especially when he learned his grandma was apart of the Apollo and Shuttle programs. A great buy for kids who love space and going to space.

Excellent factual account
I wanted a factual account of the Apollo 11 mission suitable to be read to a then 4 year old boy, and bought this for the price of the P&P plus a penny, after seeing someone else's copy at a Norfolk Astronomical Society meeting, as it fits the bill perfectly. I think it is now out of print, which is a shame. It's 48 pages including the one page glossary, with about 60-70 words and one big or two smaller pictures to each double paged opening. At 4, he lapped up the exciting story of man's first moon landing; hopefully at 6 (just about to start year 2) he is nearly ready to read some of it to me, as a bit of variety from Biff and Chip....The story is well-covered, from blast off to a few brief words about what happened in the three astronauts' later careers. There are also some interesting asides e.g. about what gravity is, the spacesuits, the astronauts' food, etc.All in all, this is education as it ought to be: factual, fun, informative.

one small step
My 6 year old began an interest in space so I bought this book to read together, he found it so interesting. It's a small book but there's a lot of info packed in. This book tells the story of Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins and their journey from earth to landing and walking on the moon, collecting samples for research back home. My son loved seeing the detailed astronaut suits and finding out about the food they eat but was amazed by Apollo 11, this is a great book for kids looking to find more info on space
