Let's Talk About Body Boundaries, Consent & Respect: A book to teach children about body ownership, respectful relationships, feelings and emotions, choices, and recognizing bullying behaviors : Sanders, Jayneen: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Incredible and necessary! - I absolutely love this book. My daughter is only 21 months but it’s never too early to start introducing consent and respect! We read through it together, talk about the images and she’s now began repeating bits to me, for example I’ll point to the girl who doesn’t want a kiss and she will say “she’s sad” and when I ask why she replies “don’t want kiss, want hi five”. It shows me she is beginning to understand parts of the book, she has also started to tell us no if we ask for a hug or kiss and she’s not in the mood, which is great, as she’s learning her body is hers. As the book says “your body is yours, and you are the boss of it!”. I think this book is a great foundation and starting point for any parent. The illustrations are great too, although this probably is aimed at older children, it’s definitely engaging for toddlers thanks to the beautiful imagery! Review: Perfect for my 5 year old daughter - Brilliant book about consent and respect

Empowering for children
This book gives some good introductory child relevant examples of times when boundaries and consent could be needed. It refers to boundaries and personal space which are described as body bubbles etc. My child practiced drawing her bubble around her and then said about times she felt like hers had been “popped” when people sometimes come too close etc. I am hoping it helps build her confidence to say no at times when she needs/ wants to.

I bought this book when I was a health teacher. It’s a wonderful resource to teach kids about their body autonomy and the power of their own "no" in a way that’s simple and empowering. The book does a brilliant job of breaking down concepts like consent and body bubbles. It encourages children to listen to their "safety sensations" and gives them the confidence to set boundaries with friends and family alike. It’s not just about their own space, though; it’s a fantastic tool for teaching kids how to recognise and respect the boundaries of those around them. With its inclusive illustrations and gentle tone, it’s a must have for any Australian classroom or home. It turns a potentially tricky subject into a series of positive life lessons, giving kids the right vocabulary to stay safe and feel in control.

Our son's kila (preschool) had a rash of inappropriate body play start up. In an effort to teach our son correct boundaries, we started discussing body autonomy and safety at home, and we purchased this (and another book) as learning aids. We were pleased to see that the book does not impose prudish, overly strict or religiously-based morals: it simply discusses what is appropriate, what is safe, and how to identify if something might not be safe so that the child can take appropriate actions. My son immediately understood what the book was trying to say, and has been able to help other children in his school group as well. We also ended up bringing this book to his school, where it was used with the entire class. The teachers there said the book was great and were very grateful for the resource. I highly recommend this book if you've got a 3-5yo who needs age appropriate instruction on these topics.

This book did a great job of teaching my child body boundaries. It has tips for parents communication as well which is so nice. We tried having these conversations before she started pre-school, but this book is what really helped that conversation take off. I like how interactive it is.
