awesome product
this product is so awesome. i have purchased the shaver singly and in the party pack, two orders of each type. so i have my review of the item posted in both places, shown below:first purchase was in july 2013 for my granddaughter, big hit! then three more at Christmastime, one for me, one for a girlfriend's daughter, and a fourth for some friend's teenage boys. hits all the way around. i love shaved ice, with or without syrup. hawaiian ice sells replacement blades on their website: i have not found them offered for sale anywhere else, and wanted to, because their shipping is exorbitant, so high they should be embarrassed, but their ice shaver is awesome.january 20 2014 update: i got replacement blades (they are not thin like a razor blade, but a thickish piece of metal that tapers to an edge) to have on hand to use in the future, and extra cups to freeze the discs, which, btw, come three to an order. i ordered three and received nine, so that was a pleasant surprise. :)a comment about the leftover ice that cannot be shaved when the frozen disc of ice is used in the machine, a 3" diameter disc of ice that is about 1/4 inch thick. i have read complaints about this being a wasted chunk of ice, but i keep them, put the remaining piece of the disc in the freezer in a bag, and use them to cool down drinks that are in large cups, or to cool down brewed tea for iced tea. i consider having the leftover discs a bonus!i buy snow cone concentrate from Ralph's SnoBall Supply and make cavity/bacteria killing snow cone syrups with xylitol granules, a sugar alcohol sweetener, so every snow cone is a treatment for my teeth. you can even buy some of the concentrates that are clear, eliminating dye, but there are still the preservatives. they also sell syrups pre-made with cane sugar and charge reasonable prices for them, but i buy the concentrates to be able to use different sweeteners. xylitol is also diabetic friendly, and it doesn't taste fake, just good, and i usually HATE artificial sweeteners. i made some syrups with cane sugar this weekend for my grandkids to take home, or you can use stevia or whatever floats your boat. i am not using the xylitol to save on calories, but it does that as well. each 4-ounce bottle of sample concentrate yields a gallon of syrup. i make my syrups about a cup at a time. they are awesome tasting and making them with xylitol keeps cavity-causing bacteria out of my mouth. so fast, so easy, so cost-effective, so good. :)

Works great!
This worked great just as described. Very easy to use and clean up. The children love it and this grandma loves making snow cones for them.

Great shaved ice machine for over 10 yrs
I've been using this type of shaver for over 10 yrs. It's a great machine. There's minimal pressure that needs to be applied, to get the snow-type ice. I have had repeated problems with it not working. I change the blade, the motor works, but it won't shave. Their customer service is working with me now to find a solution. I use it everyday, year-round. It's just the best way to get a shaved ice at home. I'll update when a resolution to the issue final.

Love this thing!!
It works best for me if I pour the grape juice or Kool-Aid directly into the ice cup cop mold and freeze it and then run the ice puck thru the machine. Its wonderful to be able to enjoy snow cones here at Home and make as many as I want. The only thing that restrains me is having to wait 10 hours for the liquid to freeze into an ice puck and thats good because otherwise I would probably eat 10 snow cones per day (just by myself). These things are addictive.I was wasting so much money buying ice pops at the supermarket or buying Slurpees at 7-ELEVEN but this machine satisfies the same craving for sweet frozen treats.THe Kool-Aid is cheap but those snow comes are not as good as using REAL fruit juice because they taste watered down in comparison to Grape Juice. I look forward to trying it with Apple Juice and Orange Juice. Have only owned the machine for a week but I am already eating 4 ice pucks per day and these are a real treat to have when I get home from work. The machine is not too loud and it chops up the ice very fast, about 15 seconds. It does leave behind a 1/4 inch ring of ice at the bottom but I just put that in the empty mold to use for the next batch so there is zero waste.I will probably wear the machine out if I keep using it so often and I wonder if they sell replacement blades for when the blade gets dull. But the machine is under $40 so its a great bargain even if it only lasts me 90 days.Highly recommended and less calories than eating ice cream.

2nd motor failure in 2 years. When it worked it made freshly fallen snow consistency shaved ice.
3rd edit: I just replaced it, didnt get ahold of anyone. Works great, lets hope this onr holds up.2nd Edit: nearly exactly 2 years after the first purchase the 2nd machines motor has also died. Though I changed blades every 3rd or so time this was used, and even though this is the 2nd machine that has had total motor failure, it is no longer under manufacturers warranty, so I either have to replace and use the many spare blades and cups I bought, or waste all of the money I spent and choose something new. Going to try to reach out to the company and see if they're willimg to rectify the situation, will update again when I talk to them.1st Edit: It stopped shaving ice about a month into use, BUT, thanks to the 1 year manufacturers warranty, customer service took care of the problem politely, quickly, and without any hassle. I got a replacement in under a week, got to keep the original blade and cups, and didn't have to ship the broken one back. 5 stars for customer service. Now, about the product, itself; I am in love with this little thing. It indeed makes "freshly fallen snow" consistency shaved ice. Because of the price, I was sceptical, but am pleasantly surprised, as it truly can make near perfect snow. It did take me a few times to get it just right, you'll definitely want to let the pucks melt just a little bit, or run the puck under water just a second, but it makes soft fluffy snow! It is definitely loud, but that doesn't really bother me, it doesnt take but a few minutes to shave an entire puck which makes a medium size mixing bowl of shaved ice. Only other thing is you'll probably want to have a blade replacement on hand so you dont put undue stress on the motor, as the motors seem fairly fragile. It's a sturdy little machine, for how lightweight it is.
