Don't leave home without it!!! I take these everywhere they are available. I spent Nov 04 through Feb 05 and it was invaluable. I am returning again in August, to take up residence, and it is already in one of my bags.

NO DETAIL
Okay product detail was not that great. Was not on the same level as a AAA map. Not sure a National Geographic map from the magazine would not have been comparable.

I don't know much about the Philippines.. so I bought it because I was interested in going to Sagada (near Bontoc).. it is not there. But they have a "Segada" which should be Sadanga. I didn't look any further.I also got the National Geographic Adventure map, and it is very accurate.

one of the best Philippines maps, but a non-durable paper format
This map is described as being made from 'durable coated paper'. The attached cover is thick laminated paper/card stock, but the map itself is somewhat thin, non-laminated, glossy paper which is not water resistant or spill-proof. Will see how long until it starts to tear at the folds like other paper maps. Periplus, please make these maps from more durable, waterproof plastic paper like the National Geographic, Rough Guides, and Lonely Planet travel maps. Lastly, there aren't any helpful descriptions about touristic places. Now the good stuff. As you can see in the product pics, the amount of detail on the country-wide map is very decent. Not as great as the larger-scale, waterproof, National Geographic Philippines Adventure Map, but still good. And unlike the National Geographic, this Periplus map shows the entire country on one side - a huge plus. This map has very decent close-ups of some of the major city regions and city centers - which can be very helpful for navigating. The National Geographic has no close-ups. Lastly, this map nicely renders the 3-dimensional geographic form of hills, mountains, and ocean depth. The National Geographic gives more of this geographic information (including elevation contour lines which this one lacks), but land and sea is presented with more color and clarity on this Periplus map. That's the comparison between these two competing maps. Which is better? For traveling by road and passing through cities, this map is the one to choose because of the city closeups. This is more of a general-purpose map. You might still need dedicated city maps, but considering it's a full-country map, the city closeups are surprisingly decent - a nice bonus. If you want a map for nature adventures (things like beaches, diving, boating, hiking, mountain climbing, hot springs, national parks) the National Geographic Philippines Adventure Map is better because it shows more of those places and is more durable. Both maps are very good, just a different emphasis.

Tears easily at the creases. Wish it was completely laminated.

The content was good, detailed and clear
The content was good, detailed and clear. The paper it was printed on was already broken through on one of the folds. Much care is needed when handling this otherwise good map. We are only going for a week so it will well suffice.
