Whisper quiet and effective
This is the first dehumidifier I've purchased as I don't have damp mouldy wall problems but it can get vey humid with condensation on the windows which leads to mould around the windows. This MeacoDry ABC dehumidifier 10L is perfect for solving this issue as it's compact but still very effective. There are 2 fan speed settings with both running quiet, in fact I always run it on the higher speed as it's quiet enough for me not being obtrusive even being in the same room. There is also a digital display showing the relative humidity in the room with settings to regulate the humidity you want which automatically switches off the machine when it reaches the target humidity. There are other features which are described in the product description which makes it a very capable dehumidifier. Using it to help control humidity and window condensation as well as drying laundry on an airer and for both it works very well and cheap to run. Also very easy to move from room to room with the handle on the back. If you're looking for a good quality capable dehumidifier for humidity or condensation control then in my opinion this is perfect. I'm mainly impressed with how quiet it is, how well it works and the high quality. I am very happy with this and recommend you get one, even if it's just for drying laundry as it's a lot cheaper than running a tumble drier.

Excellent Dehumidifier
I don’t normally bother to review products after 12 months, but I felt I should on this occasion, as I noticed it is 12 months since I ordered this Meaco unit. I live in an old damp house, and chose this unit to try to improve matters. I wanted it to be effective, not too loud and energy efficient. The fact it was UK made was a bonus. In the last year I estimate I have run the dehumidifier 340 days. I move it around the house and probably empty 1litre of water on average a day. Now I know that’s the point of a dehumidifier, but it struck me that the performance is outstanding. It does everything it claims to do. It is quiet enough to run in a bedroom, as it does most nights, although it may annoy some I guess. It is so simple to operate and empty. Light enough to move around easily. I just wanted to say thank you to Meaco for a great product that has massively reduced the damp and mold in my still very old house.

Very pleased, definitely recommend
Love, love. A real workhorse. Not too loud. Pulls the humidity on a rainy day. Dries clothes well. Very pleased. Bought a second one for daughter whose flat is having a condensation problem and this Meaco took care of that.

Dependable dehumidifier
Good mid-range dehumidifier. Especially helpful in the winter when moisture builds up. It is mostly used in the home in the living room, which is a larger size. With the heating on, the dehumidifier works really well, usually clearing up any steam from cooking or extra moisture in 30min-1hr. It's especially useful for drying clothes, as it has a specific setting for that which turns the machine off automatically after 6-hours to help with electricity usage. Sometimes the clothes need more than that, but not very often if you put the drying rack right next to the dehumidifier. If the door is closed to the room, it works even better. Downside is that the room needs to be a warmer temperature for the dehumidifier to work properly. Under about 12-15 degrees it does not work very well. You also need to be careful to empty the water compartment regularly, because mould can easily build up and cleaning it is not the easiest thing to do.

This is the one!
I love this machine and I strongly recommend it!! It is extremely efficient, especially if you have to dry laundry indoors. I used to have headaches from wet clothes drying on the radiators; water+powder evaporating in the air. There was a lot of condensation in the house. The air was humid and stale and the clothes would go musty before it goes dry. It was such a major problem in our everyday life and I can't believe it's all sorted now - with this machine. It's very simple to understand and operate and super cheap to run. It blows back cold dry air, but on the whole it leaves the house feeling warmer and drier. It's not too loud, but you can definitely hear the fan. (We turn it off in the night because we prefer to sleep in silence). It performs better in the warmer room; if it's too cold it goes often into defrosting mode. Every now and then, it's good to vacuum dust that collects on the filter net where the air gets sucked. The only con I can think of is mobility. It was a bit of a task to move it around until I put it on a mat which now allows me to gently pull, push and slide around the wooden floor without even lifting it and disturbing the water. Every second day when I see that red light indicating the tank is full I exclaim little "Hurray!" and then victoriously carry the tank to empty it - it's a great feeling! :D It's really brilliant and it significantly improves the general mood in the house. I can't praise it enough. I was reading reviews of many different dehumidifiers and I'm so glad I went for this one. It's the best investment of the year :) Now, I just hope it will have a decent lifetime!

2 bed maisonette - works wonders
We're a family of 3 with a 15 month old, and have been air-drying inside for years now. Our place is a top floor maisonette, and suffers the standard airflow, stuffiness, humidity - but not as bad as ground floor. Previously we were doing things like: Keeping bathroom windows open for hours after a shower Keeping bedroom windows near the clothes rack partially open whilst they dry Drying clothes, which would take up to 3 days in the colder winter months Airing the place and opening the loft hatch to get more airflow around Dealing with the cold as a result Burning plenty of gas on the central heating It took around a day or two of pretty much continuous use for the air to drop from average 70% humidity to 50-55%. The target is 55% by the way. The unit has a two-digit display that simply shows humidity by default, and LC when you lock it. The child lock is SUCH a good feature as our little fella will play drums on the top and push buttons (thankfully he hasn't worked out that holding the fan down for >2 seconds disengages it). Pros Top one first - heating and ambient temperature are now reduced and increased respectively. This is incredible. For example: we have hardly used the heating since it turned cold and if we do, it takes SIGNIFICANTLY less time to warm the place due to the reduced humidity (we're talking well under half the time). This means less on gas bills, and a marginal increase in electricity - I've checked and already have made a saving on last year's gas and overall saving when including the electricity uplift. As ambient temperature has gone up, less heating is required overall - we average 19 degrees now. All of this means that the bathroom doesn't really need to have the windows open when taking a shower - obviously a prolonged bath would still necessitate it, but things in the bath dry quicker too. We place it in the landing area, which connects all doors to all rooms, and within an hour, humidity will now get from 60 down to 50 having used it for a few weeks. I've seen it go as low as 46. The humidity reading is fairly accurate - The Nest thermostat reads almost the same (±2%), and the Dyson tower fan cooler has the same margin of error. Drying clothes inside now takes mere hours, even in the winter months (as of writing), this includes bed sheets, though obviously bathmats will take longer if they're really heavy cotton. You can also use a 6 hour program for this with one button. The air feels cleaner and less heavy, and smells from cooking linger less - obviously YMMV on this, but when we do fish for example, the whole place doesn't stink for days now I recommend placing the unit with the rear (intake), TOWARDS the source of damp - washed clothes, bathroom etc. as it will suck this in and then pass out dried air. This works best in my testing. You can connect it in and run it permanently, if you choose to buy a hose, noting that it doesn't ship with one to cut down on plastic waste. The tank takes on average a good 16 hours to fill in normal use, sometimes a day, especially if the air is already fairly dry and warm. Even drying clothes, I've had it run for almost 20 hours and it's not been quite full. I use the water tank to flush the toilet to save water there. The display can be turned off at night, so no annoying bright-LEDs to keep you awake. Cons, not that there are many: It makes a beep when turning on (and just connecting to mains), child locking/unlocking, removing the water tray ( 5 beeps), and whilst not particularly loud, I'd like a way of turning this off. The unit filter is just a basic mesh, it's not HEPA, nor can I find a replacement filter that will fit that is HEPA. I decided not to bother with the HEPA as this is supposedly quieter and more efficient than the next model, and we have a Dyson fan that has a HEPA filter already. When pulling the tray out while operational, there is a short delay while it trips out - meaning there will be a few drips of water. Not much, but worth mentioning. There is no way to angle the fan - it's locked in a slightly-off vertical angle. This has never been an issue, but if you want to point it - look at another model. It's fairly heavy, but again, nothing for an average adult. The handle for moving it at the back will tilt it due to the centre of gravity, which means if the tank is relatively full, it'll spill, so use two hands to keep it upright. In hindsight, I would possibly have gone for the HEPA model and tolerated whatever increase in noise was present, but for now and with a continuous month of usage, this was absolutely worth the money and will likely pay for itself just in this winter period alone.

Great for small/medium apartments, highly recommended!
So, this isn’t by any means a long term review, just the first few days of ownership. But I thought best to leave a review, as my initial impressions have been brilliant so far. Unit is well packaged and thought out, the company seem to care which is a big bonus, just going on the presentation of the machine itself and accompanying documentation. It’s quiet, stylish and damn well does the job at hand. We bought this after our apartment (master bedroom, en-suite bathroom, hallway, kitchen/lounge) started to become very humid in the cold months we are now in, reaching around 82% in the living areas, 90%+ in the bathroom at all times. We were seeing condensation on the walls and windows, as well as mould growth. The air felt heavy, damp and cold. You could feel it. Washing took forever to dry on radiators and would often smell or remain damp afterwards. Being in London, we can’t exactly open the windows all day and let air flush through and the weather hasn’t exactly helped that either. We needed a dehumidifier. After looking on Which and Amazon, decided to buy this out of recommendation and price to performance. So far, it has not disappointed at all. Set it up on auto with a target of 55% humidity and left it running with all doors open in the middle of the apartment. Within the first hour of runnnig there was a noticable difference in the weight of the air, it already felt much fresher, with the sound when near it of trickling water being sucked from the air. Within the first 6, it dropped the humidity from 82% to 70% (bathroom finally dried too!) and removed a whole tank of water from the air in the apartment, from about 4pm to 10pm. I was astonished just how much water was in the air. Left it running over night and it was down to 59%, another tank full. With the bedroom door shut and it just on the other side, you can’t hear it on full power. So far, I love it. The air is fresh and light again, it feels warmer and no condensation on walls and windows. The bathroom is finally dry and clothes not damn or smelling. Much better nights sleep! Let’s just hope I never have to use that 2 year warranty! Edit: We set it up in the center of the apartment on Sunday when it arrived, in the hallway with all doors open, set to an auto target of 55% humidity. The hallway is as central as you can get in this place. The difference is astonishing. First few days, we emptied the tank 3 times every 24 hours. By mid week it had settled down to twice in 24hrs, and by the end of the week once in 24hrs with the unit only switching itself on once every other hour for about 30 minutes to regulate the humidity. The difference is incredible; - The air is light and fresh again, the cold doesn’t feel cold, the place retains heat unbelievably better and when we do turn the heating on, 10 minutes as we are toasty again! - Mould has stopped - Damp/condensation has all cleared up, windows are now perfectly clear again and walls dry! - The solid oak doors have shrunk, this sounds weird but when we moved in they were fine. Then after a few months we noticed we couldn’t shut them properly, swelling due to the humidity. Now just just glide shut again! - Clothes no longer smell or are damp. - Clothes actually dry! And so does the bathroom! - Generally, it’s a much nicer place to be, more homely and fresh The unit itself is so far brilliant; well made, stylish, efficient and quiet (bedroom door shut you cannot hear it). I’m still amazed just how much water comes out of the air when emptying the tank!!
