good but hard to watch
After getting away from the MI theme in MI II (I felt) the makers moved back toward the MI cloak and dagger motif in this film. Ethan Hunt is now an MI operative trainer. His first trainee gets ambushed, captured. He and his team have to go capture her. They do but she dies in their arms, literally. But she sends him a secret note detailing a traitor in the MI upper ranks. Ethan feels that since he is not in the field anymore he is safe in building a normal l ife. He marries. Well . . . that is the weak point the new bad guy exploits. Drama, action, adventure ensue. First off it was a good action/adventure movie. But it was not so much about the government, spy stuff like it should be. More so than MI II. But still the wife thing was a distraction. Out of place actually. Anyway whoever wrote this movie was a sicko. To use such things to emotionally manipulate the audience is just sick. It is effective. But sick. This movie should have been an R movie. It was a little too much. Anyway while the romance stuff lent itself to the action/adventure I personally feel that this movie should be more about spy related stuff. Government stuff. Not love. But again they brought that into this movie for whatever reason. There are some really impossible scenes in this movie that made me say out loud "Come on!". I mean who can be dead for 15 minutes while someone goes on a killing rampage only to be revived with CPR? No one. Sorry. That is really too impossible. And the dead waking up and grabbing a gun. That is really impossible. But it is the movies. It is just over the top in my opinion. I remember rolling my eyes in the theatre wheen I saw this there when it came out. Just too much.

Third Time Was A Charm
It took 3 trys and JJ Abrams (Lost, Alias etc)to finally get a great MI movie. And, unfortunately, it only took one crazy session of couch jumping on Opera to make a lot of people ignore it. Well, that and the audio players that were placed in LA Times newspaper vending machines to play the theme music when opened, that people mistook for bombs. That negative publicity at release time was very unfortunate because this is by far the best MI of the three. The trailer gives a good idea of the intense action and interactions between Cruise and Hoffman, who are both at the top of their form. I can't think of a film where either are better. This is an action film with some outlandish gadgets, just like the original TV series and chock full of action. So its not like the new Casino Royale [Blu-ray ] or Bourne Trilogy (3pc) (Ws Dub Sub Ac3 Dol Gift) offerings which do not have anywhere near the gadgets that don't exist. This movie is like an update of an old Bond movie with its intense action and fantastic gear. The plot is no more outlandish then any vintage bond move and is followable. The action scenes are as good as any I have seen, and I am a movie buff. One of my favorite scenes is shot on the old bridge that goes to the Florida Keys. The amount of destruction in that one scene makes me wonder if that strip will be used in a film again. If you want to watch a great action flick with some intense action scenes I highly recommend MI3

Fantastic movie.
Of the MI movies, this is my favorite. PSH played such a great villain, chilling even. The story was fantastic, the cast was great and as most of the MI's you are on the edge of your seat.

Great movie for teens and adults!
Great movie! My family enjoyed it because it had action, and an overall good message. It showed that the husband should always look after his wife, even when he is a secret agent. Pros: Action, good vs evil theme, very entertaining. Cons: Language, sexual content, and lots of violence.

Really???
There has to be some suspension of disbelief in movies like this. The IMF is of course a ridiculous notion, but in the series and even in the first movie, you can forget the over-done actions scenes. This movie tramples on that belief system pretty bad. Bad enough that I got pulled out of the movie several times. Here's some examples SPOILER ALERT: Huey helicopter is chased by Cobra Helicopter - why does the Cobra gunship follow into the wind farm? It's idiotic when all they have to do is just fly over it. Pilot's, particularly helicopter pilots, are a smarter than that. Ethan Hunt's boss has been looking for this arms dealer his entire career. Ethan catches him in a few days without much adue. This makes his boss look like an incompetent fool and I doubt the head of a major espionage organization, who has probably served as an agent for many years before being promoted, is that idiotic. So, what is Ethan's reward for capturing the bad guy? Instant suspicion and arrest without so much as a pat on the back. Ethan is never given the opportunity to defend himself. I would think that the boss would remember that Ethan is probably the top guy in his field, who has proven himself a loyal and honorable agent who has survived every scandal. Agents would never try to interrogate a person in the field and if they do they ALWAYS use blackout techniques (never reveal themselves personally to the prisoner). It's spy games 101. When Ethan escapes, his boss is surprised. Ethan, you know, the only guy that has eluded the CIA, FBI, most of Europe's and Asia's police forces, and IMF. Ethan, the only guy that has ever successfully broken into the CIA's HQ's. Ethan, the guy that has many friends and connections around the world and has never ever been captured and HELD. Yea, you just leave him with cuffs and a mouth gag (so he can't explain there's a mole in the organization etc...). Yea, I know the boss is being setup for suspicion of being the mole, but the audience already knows Ethan's handler and friend is a total weasel. The guy is grossly incompetent and he's a total ass. IMF must be hard pressed for good agents these days. I could go on and on, but you guys get the idea. Really wish they made this a little 'smarter'. It could have been a really good movie.
