Q: Will this measure pounds AND oz??

I emailed the manufacturer, and this is their answer: We are sorry that you are having trouble deciphering the weight unit increments of this scale. Please note that when the weight unit is set at POUNDS (lb) the weight increments for the ounces will be from .02 to .98 therefore a reading of 9.40 (9.4) will mean a weight result of 9 pounds and 4 ounces whereas a reading of 9.22 will mean a weight result of 9 pounds and 2.2 ounces. Also, when the weight unit is set at OUNCES (oz) the weight increment for the ounces will be from .20 to .80 (3.2 oz to 12.8 oz).

Q: does this weigh in grams also I want to use it for new born kittens which are only about 4.0z or 113 grams at birth

Use a kitchen scale. If you're familiar enough with newborns to know the importance of weighing, then you know how incredibly important it is to catch even tiny changes. Newborns can be as little as 70g, so a 7g difference for that kitten is 10% of its body weight, but on this scale would measure as 0.07kg. You're never going to get accurate enough readings from this scale and that can be life or death for tinies.

Q: Why are there so many complaints about the app and cats? I really want to get this for my underweight cats but I am hesitant and concerned.

I am personally not aware of the complaints or an app associated with this scale and cats. I can tell you though, in my personal opinion (I am a Vet Tech and the purchaser for a large emergency and specialty hospital) that this white and gray scale is not our favorite. We have tried several different ones recently when our longtime ones broke. This one takes a long time to turn on and be ready for you to place the patient (cat) on the scale. There is another one, that was in this same Amazon listing- it's white with yellow- same brand, no tape measure. I would recommend that one instead. I don't know why, since they appear to be pretty much the same, but that one is much quicker (& easier) to use. We have several of each of these in our hospital, so it's not just one that does it.
