Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons: Revised and Updated Second Edition : Haddox, Phyllis, Bruner, Elaine, Engelmann, Siegfried: desertcart.in: Books Review: This is a great resource and I would recommend to all parents who ... - I have completed 10 lessons from the book and my daughter (4.3 years old) has already started reading small words (like mat, am, seat etc based on the sounds she has learnt so far). I am excited to see the progress and look forward for more learning. The lessons are simple and short. All the chapters have sound writing practice and revisions for all previous sounds that have been learnt by your child. This is a great resource and I would recommend to all parents who want their kids to develop love for reading from early childhood. I do one chapter each day and if my daughter is not in mood I skip a day in between but not more than that. You will find first few lessons to be very simple but I would suggest not to do more than 1 lesson a day and also do not rush finishing the lessons. Each lesson takes around 20 mins and should be done that way for your child to remember each sound. My daughter always remember the sounds when we do new lesson so time spent on each lesson is important although you may feel like finishing it quickly. I am planning to finish all lesson in next 6 months (given the later chapters may need some revision and also the breaks that you may have to give your child). Please try this book and I am sure you will not regret it. Another important point that I want to bring into notice that you practice the sounds yourself first before teaching your kids. It is essential that we tell then the right way of pronouncing the sound. It matters a lot. There are guidelines and suggestion on those things in the beginning of the book. If you are still confused please do check some videos on Phonics on you tube. I wish the book included some CD with all the sounds in it. Review: my kid can read! - I cannot thank this book enough. My son is five, and he knew the alphabet. But he did not understand how to blend the sounds. This book has a very step by step process. But if you are sticking to the book, follow it till the end, as it has its own method of teaching. We are on lesson 30, and he is able to read 3 letter words and small sentences. One thing that we did extra was made flash cards of all the sounds mentioned in the book. So we practice putting the cards together to make words. There are small black and white illustrations for comprehension. Overall I totally love it, and so happy that we got it.

A must-have resource!
As a parent, this has to be one of the tools for a child's literacy journey. The simple, bite-sized lessons have been designed remarkably such that my 4 year old daughter has jumped leaps and bounds in her reading abilities and has since been trying to read any word that she sees anywhere. One of the best investment ever!

Better than any other phonics books and classes
Just buy this if your kids need help with reading or blending. It's not for quick results. First of all it's all up to you and your dedication to make this work. It has all the instructions provided on each line on how to talk to kids ,how to explain,in simple ways ,so easy for them them to grasp. I have tried many phonics classes and materials, but this beats it. For me and my kid this felt more natural way to read. Go slow, 1 lesson a day, don't skip any, repeat if needed, it will take time like 100+/- days, but it sticks with them.

Excellent
I'm teaching my 7year old to read, she was finally ready and she's been racing through the book. I'm on lesson 50 and doing well. Things to remember, you can do a lesson everyday and finish in about four months but don't, take your time, go back back and forth between the lessons for phonic fluency. Allow your child to lead the way. There's absolutely no hurry or pressure in learning well. What I really like is that every word you need to say is scripted and helps take the burden of you to prep before each lesson. All the best 👍🏽

This book, Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons, has been absolutely amazing. It’s super easy to read, well-structured, and very easy to teach, even if you don’t have any teaching experience. The lessons are clear, short, and laid out in a way that makes it simple to follow step by step. My child stayed engaged, and I could see real progress quickly. The instructions tell you exactly what to say and do, which takes all the guesswork out of teaching reading at home. It truly builds confidence for both the parent and the child. The price was very reasonable for the value you get, especially compared to tutoring or other programs. This is a practical, effective tool that delivers real results. If you’re looking for an easy-to-follow, affordable, and proven reading program, this book is a fantastic choice. I’m very happy with this purchase and would definitely recommend it to other parents.

Book looks boring but my kids enjoyed the stories and it builds in such a way they never got frustrated. Used the book to teach 2 of my kids and now started with my three year old.

We have personally become big fans of Siegfried Engelmann because of this book. Based on Direct Instruction system: meaning teaching in very small incremental steps. If you are not able to teach your child how to read through this book, then there can be 99.9% two reasons only... 1. Your child is too young, so you need to try after a couple of months, OR 2. You are not following the book instructions properly, so read again the instruction part and focus on what are you missing out.

We're on lesson 29 and he's learned so much already! I'm impressed with how he tries to sound things out in daily life as well. I love the script and my son gets so excited when there's a new sound or when he reads something new. This book makes teaching phonics-based reading so simple. We are supplementing with BOB books. I'll update this review if my opinion changes as we continue to work through the book.
