The one to get
Don't waste time on the flimsy poles you get at the pool store - they won't last. This thing is built like a tank. Did take a little getting used to - the grips that you have to twist to unlock the sections were a little difficult to turn until it was used a few times. This was definitely worth investing in - I've had it 3 years now and it's never let me down.

Nine years old and has been a great pool pole
Bought this pole in 2014 and it has worked great for nine years. The plastic cam that connects and allows the two individual poles to slide in and out of one another just broke. I called the manufacturer and ordered the new part for $5 plus shipping. I expect it to last another nine years. Price at $100 is double what I paid but I would pay it if I needed a new pole. It is extremely durable even when fully extended and worth the money. You won’t be disappointed in the performance. Once the price of aluminum gets back to normal I expect it won’t be $100 but shipping costs have also caused the price to go up.

Most of the poor reviews complained about 1) the weight and 2) tight ...
I'll give it a 4 since it just arrived today. Very heavy pole, but once extended to the length needed and in the water it really wasn't taxing at all. I used it to vacuum the pool and the added weight seemed to help keep the vac head from lifting off the pool floor. I definitely wouldn't use as a surface skimmer, I'll dedicate a lighter, traditional telescoping pole for that. Most of the poor reviews complained about 1) the weight and 2) tight threads, so the advice from this pool owner is this:1) Dedicate a traditional (lighter and cheaper) pole to skimming the surface, and maybe for brushing the walls. Means that once you can set the length of the JED pole to the desired depth for raking, brushing and vacuuming the deep end during opening, you may be able to leave at that length for the rest of the season. 2) A trick I learned from someone years ago is that pole threads are no different than the threads on your return fittings, the sight glass and pressure gauge on your filter and the plugs on your pump and heater: they rarely stick if wrapped with teflon tape. Mind you, you'll have to re-tape every couple of weeks but that takes all of about 3 mins, and can be done with a beer at your side. And if you dedicate this pole to deep use you may only have to re-wrap once a year, before opening.Edit: Other reviews complained about the difficulty of attaching accessories like vacuum heads and skimmer nets. Because this pole is constructed of a thicker gauge aluminum, it has a slightly smaller interior diameter. That means that you have to squeeze the V-clip on your accessory a little harder. Quick piece of advice: those v-clips can stiffen and lose their flexibility in a single season. They are also easily replaced, and new clips are noticeably more flexible than year-old clips. You can buy new clips (sets of 3 are available and usually adequate for a full season) for a few bucks.

I was tempted to buy a skimlite 9000 series for double the money and glad I didnt
This is a solid pole. I just broke one I had for 2 years that I bought from a local pool store (Leslie's or Brown's). This one feels way more solid and will be more than enough for the average home. I was tempted to buy a skimlite 9000 series for double the money and glad I didnt. This pole is definitely long enough for my 28,000 gallon pool which has an area that is about 10 feet deep near the main drain. I would strongly recommend but I do have some concerns which is why it only gets 4 stars.Pros:1) Fast shipping2) Way more solid and thicker than the cheaper poles you buy locally3) The locking mechanism is better than the cheaper poles4) Fits all my attachments5) Price compared to other heavier duty poles is extremely competitive especially for the average home.Cons:1) When almost fully extended, it still gives a little similar to my previous pole but much more sturdier. I dont feel like it will break like I did my previous one but definitely not as solid when fully extended. This may/should happen to any pole fully extended.2) The bottom part is black and when pole sits out in the sun, gets pretty hot to the touch. I dont recall my previous silver pole doing this but its possible. Thats why we have handles on the pole right?3) I have concrete around my vinyl pool and was scratching this pole a little. It handled it pretty well but I worry about long term cosmetics, not functionality.4) The handles are stirdy but the end can come off a little easier than I expected. I dont think this will be an issue but my previous pole felt like the handle on the edge was built into the pole.

Nice pole
Here is my second attempt at providing a review. Telescopes as advertised. Big pole in it's closed position at 8'. May be used as a pole vault for crossing a moat.

Good Quality But No Wholes Were Drilled
Quite good quality and sturdiness. My only complaint is that it was very late in shipping and shipped with no holes drilled so I had to drill my own in order to connect anything.

Great strong Pole
This pole is much more robust then the previous one I had which bent, then snapped. This will last for many years.
