Updated 12-19-17 SmartDelux customer service replied to me and provided exactly the information I was looking for. My update is twofold. 1. They are good people and have great customer service. They went out of their way to help me with an unusual request. 2. The product is very functional and well thought through. It functions exactly as advertised and is very attractive. Highly Recommended:-) Original Review: I would like to share my experience with SmartDelux, and the reason for my 2-star rating. The 13 port USB hub I purchased is a good product. It performs well and I have no complaints about the product. Here is the reason for the 2-star rating: While unpackaging the product I liked the material used for the protective sleeve used to protect the hub from being scuffed by the outer packaging. I own a company that manufactures a completely unrelated product and thought it would be a good type of protective sleeve for our product. I spent about an hour searching for an equivalent, then thought why not just ask SmartDelux where they bought the sleeves. I searched and found their website. I found it a little odd that the only contact method was to send a "contact us" general address email. I sent the email explaining that we manufacture a totally unrelated product, that we liked the protective plastic sleeve they used and asked if they could give me contact information for the source of the protective packaging sleeves. The next morning I had a reply asking for the size and quantity we wanted, as if they wanted to sell them to me. I replied, politely saying that all I wanted was contact information for the source. This was the response I received: We are very sorry but we can not give you this information it is associated with the production and logistics, and our department is not involved in this. I am a business person who owns and have owned multiple businesses over the years, and I understand the need to protect certain things, but it is not like this plastic packaging sleeve is a trade secret. I will certainly be able to find them without the information from SmartDelux, but this would have saved me a lot of time and effort. This may mean something to you, and it may not. To me this spoke volumes about who these people are, so I thought I would share my experience.

I was extremely excited when I received this product. The solid well-constructed feel of this unit was impressive. The lighted ports promised to make connections super easy in low lighting situations. It appeared to be the perfect USB expansion unit and well worth the investment. When I plugged the unit into my PC, everything lit up exactly as expected. However, when I plugged in a simple USB Memory Stick, nothing registered. I tried every port. All ports were dead. Wow! Something was obviously wrong. How could such a solid good-looking unit like this fail to perform? I sent an email directly to the company and to my shock and delight ... they responded back immediately with great concern and empathy! In their reply, they requested my contact information and said they would send out a new unit immediately ... and no need to return the defective unit! Two days later, the replacement unit arrived by expedited service. I plugged it in, and voila! It functions perfectly! I could not be more ecstatic and pleased by the responsiveness of their service department. They provided the kind of rapid, hassle-free service that is rarely seen in today's world. Two thumbs up + Five Stars and Ultra-respect for their awesome 3-year warranty! If you need a great USB expansion unit, this one is a trifecta in every department: Warranty, Responsiveness, plus Great looks and Functionality. I'd buy it again without hesitation. I was reading the reviews for this item and was already intrigued by its 10Gbps port speed and number of ports. Then I read that someone mounted it under their desk to conserve desktop space, which motivated me to purchase it, even though I already had a USB hub with similar specs. My current hub was designed to sit on top of a desk, while this one looked like a surge protector that could be placed out of sight. When I received it, I was pleased it came with a USB 3.0 Type A to USB-C data cable. The only fast USB connection I had in the back of my mini-PC was USB4, so the cable was just what I needed. I used Gorilla two-sided tape to mount it under the desk, plugged in the power adapter and data cable, and connected my USB peripherals. Everything is working as it should, and I have a little less clutter on my desk.

Over all this is a great product. Then only problem I have is the led lights. It is difficult for me to tell when they are on, and they bleed to the lights by them, making them look like they are on when they are not. I do like being able to have more USB inputs than what is on my computer. The cord is long enough to easily reach my table where the computer is located.

I have an extensive home office with a laptop, four external drives (three powered by the hub), a DVD reader/writer, a portable floppy drive and a USB cable for hooking up my Amazon Kindle, IPad, IPhone and digital camera. I also use the hub for charging the Kindle, IPad and IPhone on occasion when I need a charge port. I use the hub as more of a 'docking station' than an accessory hub. Believe me, it is more reliable than many USB docking stations that I have owned and tried out. The best docking station outside the hub was manufactured by IBM back in the 'good old days' for their ThinkPad T Series laptops. I still own one and it is almost 20-years old. The power supply for the hub is hefty and will rated to carry everything I connect to the hub. Since I installed and configured the system a little over a year ago, the system worked to perfection. I carry the laptop to a work location and when I return home, I just connected the cable and I have my whole system up. There is little or no load on the laptop's USB buss as I only connect the keyboard and mouse directly to the laptop. The rest of the system 'load' is on the hub and it does exactly what it is designed to do. I highly recommend the hub to any who are thinking of purchasing a docking station. The hub works a lot better!
