Case snap broken and caliper makes rattling noise but works.
I really like it although something inside makes a rattling noise that makes me a little nervous and I'm not to happy the case snap is broken but what are you gonna do I really need it this weekend or I would have case replaced. It seems pretty accurate and slides pretty smooth. If anyone knows what's causing the rattling noise inside I'd love to know if it's ok or problem. It's not the roller either.

RECOMMENDED... But, you have to change the battery frequently - and that is problem
When I bough this I was originally quite pleased after I replaced the battery. However, now after while it has annoyingly inaccurate read outs require a new battery every few months. When the battery is low, there is ABSOLUTELY NO warning. The calculations become secretly unreliable and you don't know it until you start questioning the results and use an old dial type of caliper to disprove this tool. I keep it super clean using Ziess lens wipes to keep the track crystal clean, so its not user cleanliness. Its the stupid battery that I guess drains even if its not being used. I only use this a six times a month and the battery might last a few months. For us forever in the past Americans still using stupid inches instead of the rest of the World with millimeters, I made up a conversion chart on a Post it note inside the carrying case as follows: .5 inches = 12.5mm; .250 inches = 6.25mm; .100 of an inch is 2.5mm; .050 inches is =1.25mm; .025 inches .625mm; .020 inches is .5mm; .015 inches = .375mm; .010 inches is .25mm; .005 inch = .125mm; .001 inch = .025mm; 10" = 254mm and 12" = 304.8mm.

Does what it should with a precision feel at a great price
I bought this caliper for use with guitar repairs. Since it was my first caliper, I had nothing to compare it to. But I liked the case it came in, and especially the feel of the instrument. While it could not measure down to thousandths of an inch without variation, higher measurements were accurate when calibrated to zero prior to use. Seems to be a good value for the money.

Good for the money
Not a professional grade German instrument, but works well. Well built. Easy to use. A real value. Case is also nice. Keeps everything contained and protected.

The zero position of the green scale is off by ...
The zero position of the green scale is off by 1mm so you cant reference the tick marks on the scale and be sure that it spot on. The digital portion of the gauge is just ok. I had a $5 coupon so I only paid $20 for it....for that amount its ok....but I wouldnt use this if I was a machinist!
