Bionic ear
Difficult to use in an urban setting and they material isn't perfect, but it still does the job. Do not expect to hear clear conversations, but is useful for detection purposes.

this is cheap junk worst crap ever purchased on Amazon
Cheap over priced junk. Already broke and never worked well. I would avoid unless you enjoy a cheap plastic toy. It broke within a week. It has less than 50 cents worth of cheap brittle plastic yet at nearly 200 bucks is a joke. A joke on ne for buying. The high up people at this company are laughing at me and will at you if you buy it. In 62 years on earth this has to be the worst piece if S.... i ever had. Amazon how can you sell this junk? Lastly the week before it broke cause I coughed on it the thing hardle magnified sounds. Light a cigar with a hundred dollar bill before spending 209 on this POS.if offered fir 5 bucks id be disappointed. Rip Off

Not perfect
Works great ! Not perfect though so the background noise will interfere, but you can hear peoples voices at about 30 to 40 yards

Expensive Toy...That's About it!!!
I had high hopes for this gadget; however, that was short-lived. The quality of the item was extremely disappointing!!! The Mic/Receiver felt ok; however the satellite-looking reflector was made of a hallow plastic. It literally felt like and resembled a shield that a kid would play with. It did a horrible job reflecting sound. The headphone/headset felt like a $5-10 pair that came from a discount store. I kept hearing a crackling sound resembling a speaker wire with a shortage. The ear pads were Ok but the headset as a whole just did not feel good. I handled them carefully as they seemed a bit fragile. Given the fact the the deflector/reflector "shield" was a joke, the company certainly could have included a respectable headset, especially at this price range. I really can't judge the microphone because I feel like the "shield" and headphones were of such low quality that the quality of the microphone probably would not help much. Maybe it was fine, maybe not...but it did feel sturdy enough and was the ONLY thing in this set that felt decent. Nonetheless, the overall sound was absolutely horrible. I kept playing with the adjustments, volume knob and such but was never able to hear anything clear, except for myself. Both me and my husband used the devise moving around to different rooms and speaking at varying levels. We just could not make out anything the other was saying, unless we said something so loud, we could actually hear it even without the device. Almost everything was muffled; we both could hear something but could not make out what was being said. My husband's hearing is very good, which is why I had him try it as well. We both had the same crappy results. For such a steep price, this company ought to be ashamed to sell something of such low quality. Aside from the microphone, if I did not know what thought I was purchasing, I would have sworn it was a kids surveillance toy. I have seen some in the big box stores for about 75% lower that the price of this and was about the same quality. Maybe I received a faulty set...however, I honestly cannot imagine that the cheap-feeling shield and headphones could every produce a decent sound even if the microphone was good. I think I would have felt better about the purchase if the items seemed of better quality. This is the first one I have ever tried and don't think I will ever mess with another one that states it has a plastic shield...I think that may be a dead give-away of the lack of quality the complete set will have. I guess I will keep looking for a listening device that is affordable and most importantly one that allows me to clearly sounds hear from a distance. In reality, I would not have cared so much about each item's feel/materials if together, they produced a clear sound/sounds. I most certainly returned this item and Amazon was great through the whole process. I will end this review in saying that I would never recommend this item; however, if you do bite the bullet and go for it, you REALLY, REALLY might want to purchase it directly from Amazon or by a seller that has the item fulfilled by Amazon. I say this because I believe there is a high likelihood that you may be returning it and will want it to go smoothly!!! Good luck on what ever device you choose and hope your experience will be better than mine!!!

Not bad, I like it!
Works really well, you just have to know how to use it and adjust it right. I got mine from a guy at the swap meet who hated it for cheap- looking later he had the microphone reversed so it was pointing out instead on it to the dish. The mike actually works pretty we'll stand-alone, but the dish really helps with isolation and amplifies the sounds greatly. It's just like a camera, you have to be in the right position... Trying to listen to a sound source with something loud next to it is like taking a picture into the sun: you'll hear if but drowned out by the background noise. You don't really realize how many hums and roars and rattles there are in an urban environment until you amplify it! Like when you cover one ear and suddenly you notice the roar of the air conditioner and the echoing muffled voice from next door - that's how this (and all) bionic ears are. That said, I've recorded some good bird calls out in the wilderness, it plays right into a recorder or iPhone and still feeds to the headphones, which is really nice. It's interesting to be able to pinpoint where a single cricket or frog is calling from too out of a chorus. The down sides so far are that it really has that late 80s electronic device look to it, but that doesn't hurt anything... When I got it I seriously thought it was 30 years old, but it's new : ). It also has old school analog electronics, you can get induction hum I from the cables, interference from cell phone held too close... Seems pretty solid otherwise. It reminds me of a lot of metal detectors, sort od that home workshop/trapped in the 80s styling. It's actually pretty good, although the price seems kind of high for the quality... I'd price it at like $100, but something better is going to be a lot more so it's probably not bad for something this specialized. I'm pretty satisfied with it.

pitiful
If it hadn't been a toy type gift begged for I'd never have paid that kind of money for it. It really doesn't work. Not just not well, but the only thing the child and his parents ever could hear from it was a radio they picked up on. It was too late for me to return the item when they finally told me what a disappointment it was.

Bionic Ear
Epic win! after you get used to it, its pretty cool, might have a bit of fumbling with the audio jack sticking out the front, but its great, made out of good quality plastic, sound quality is great, and its just great.
