Good read
Glorious Rivals had the intensity and the competition, but the emotional balance felt uneven. I know these characters well, and some of the dynamics here didn’t feel like them. The biggest issue for me was Grayson and Lyra. Their ship felt forced. It didn’t grow naturally, and it didn’t match who Grayson is. It genuinely felt like the author was trying to give him a love interest instead of letting his story breathe. Grayson does not need romance to be complete. Even if he stayed alone for now, healing and rebuilding, that would have been fine. Lyra’s presence didn’t balance him; it threw him off. And that tension didn’t feel meaningful, just frustrating. Now, Toby’s presence? That hit different. The fact that he came back for Avery, for her game, to challenge her, that was powerful. It reminded me why the Hawthorne legacy pulls so hard. Toby returning wasn’t just a twist. It was emotional. It meant something. Eve, Gigi, and Rey teaming up was one of the strongest dynamics in the book. It was strategic, messy, emotional, and smart. Gigi’s warmth, Eve’s sharp edges, Rey’s steady presence—it worked. And that cliffhanger… it was brutal in the best way. The kind of ending that stays in your head and refuses to leave. Waiting for The Gilded Blade is actually painful. I need the next move. I need the fallout. I need the answers. The book wasn’t bad. It had standout moments that hit hard. But forcing Grayson into a romance that didn’t suit him held the emotional weight back. Still, I’m not going anywhere. I’m waiting. And I’m counting down to The Gilded Blade.

Glorious Rivals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes The 5 remaining players go on and continue competing in the Grandest Game. There is mystery, romance, and so many plot twists that are so very twisty as we are met by old friends and rivals. This book really kept a fast pace with the alternating Povs from Grayson, Rohan ,Gigi, and Lyra. I loved following along with the characters as they chased the clues and learned more about themselves while they are faced with internal struggles of who to trust. Inheritance Games is one of my all time favorite series and this book lived up to the hype! I absolutely loved the romance aspect of this book and liked that it didn't overtake the Mystery and Game plots. This is a clean YA novel I would recommend, this is a 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ read . I can't wait till summer 2026 to finish of this series with The Gilded Blade
