THE BEST COOKBOOK EVER, AWESOME, Makes Grilling and Art!!!!
I swear, I would have paid DOUBLE the hardcopy price for this book alone JUST for the "Basic Rub" and the sauce that goes with it.. The first time I made it, I doubled the recipe--because the ingredients were so intrequinging (I've made the rub FOUR TIMES) since then...We've made this recipe (with chicken) FOUR times in about 1 1/2 weeks, I call it the "chicken that keeps on giving." So flavorful, you could NEVER ever eat chicken like this in a restaurant... I felt like a culinarnary genius when I decided to make that (and can't wait to show case this recipe even more) people are going to think I am maniac in the kitchen, thankx to Stephen, and I immediately told my all friends about it. Last night, 9 months pregnant, I made four more sauces (BBQ rub), the Cranberry Sauce, the sweet and sour ribs and ALL WERE Awesome, different and flavorful... I disagree with the one critic... That felt 19 ingredients in the basic rub were too many. You've gotta be kidding!!! Any homemade BBQ or rub is way way better than anything in a Jar (and that poor person is sadly missing out on this book))).... (I bet all this person has is Salt and Pepper on the shelf any cook worth his/her salt (has the ingredients that Stephen lists-he is not asking for anything "unusual" or exotic)... If Stephen (the author) told me a 40 dollar avacado would make a dish, I would be the first one in line to purchase it---this is one brilliant culinary genius. (If food can "Change your life" I believe this chicken has done it for me) let alone the four sauces I made last night. All worth the time, effort, and expense. A big seller for me is a "description" of the food and a history. "I like the chatty way of "talking up the recipe" and I disagree with the one person that 'lost a star' because of this. I like a "conversational" fun author, who in the world wants just a basic recipe with no information... If all my arms and legs were chopped off and I couldn't cook. I'd still buy the book for fun of it. My only regret is I've packed my freezer head-to-toe with Stephen's food and can't fit anymore BBQ in it... I almost want to go out and buy another freezer, except for I am scheduled to have baby number 2 in a week. I never ever in my wildest dreams thought that BBQ could be so good... THIS IS THE BEST RECIPE book, I have in a collection of hundreds... Man, would I like to meet Stephen Raichlen and lick his toes... (Emeril Lagasse does not hold a candle to him)...

Great gift
I bought this as a gift for someone who loves to grill. They really liked the book and found it very comprehensive. I would suggest this book to anyone who loves to grill.

Best barbecue book
Last summer I decided to become an accomplished barbecue cook. I barbecued almost every day and this really became my barbecue bible. I am no longer intimidated by my gas grill and I look forward to the wonderful dishes I can make. This book is worth the price just for the chicken recipes but every recipe I tried is wonderful. I also love the marinades and sauce recipes. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn how to barbecue or for those who are already accomplished. It comes with detailed instructions about heat, smoke and every other aspect of barbecuing. Buy this book, you won't be disappointed.

So many recipes, so little time!
I really debated about buying this one based on previous reviews, but Dear Hubby and I do enjoy watching Raichlen's Barbecue University on the Food Network so I went ahead and bought. Boy, I'm glad I did - usually I don't use recipes straight out of a cookbook, but I read lots of them and then improvise. Well, I've made two of these verbatim so far and I think it's one of the best barbecue cookbooks I've seen.We recently bought a smoker and I was hoping for more smoker-type recipes - this book is more about grilling than smoking though. But I know I will be trying out many more of the excellent-sounding concoctions. I also enjoyed the anecdotal notes on world-wide grilling and barbecuing!

Stupid title - great barbecue book
I take issue with other people who've said that this book's recipes are complicated. If you think putting ingredients in a blender to create a marinade or reducing sauces on a stove is difficult maybe you should be reading The Betty Crocker Kid's Cookbook.This is not a how-to book, rather it is a cookbook packed with awesome barbecue recipes from around the world. I've made tons of them, including several of the satay recipes, steak recipes (I especially like the T-bone in Garlic/Lime marinade), desserts (his kheer recipe is great), and fish (the Salmon with the basil/wine/cream reduction is killer). Almost everything I've made in this book turns out great, and they are relatively easy to make.

It really is a bible.
I bought the bargain paperback version of this book, one edition back without the flashy pictures. Photos are nice, but I was more after the information and techniques than something to ogle at.Techniques include conventional grilling and extend to low and slow smoking techniques, either on a purpose built smoker or part firing the grill and using indirect heat and wood chips under the hood of a conventional grill.The recipes are concise and complete, they don't leave you hanging. Interestingly the author gives a background to the various threads saying which region it originated from and how that country / culture uses certain spices and herbs to achieve a certain taste. I did not realize, for example, the different approaches within USA followed by states that are relatively to close to each other.The deal maker for me was the extensive and detailed sections on making rubs, sauces and marinades which look like they will be more interesting as well as cheaper than supermarket bought equivalents.

La bibbia del barbecue
Tanti tanti suggerimenti per migliorare la propria tecnica di cottura al bbq. Non si sono solo ricette ( e ce ne sono davvero tante) ma c'è anche la storia del bbq, le origini, le abitudine e i vari metodi di cottura dei vari paesi del mondo. Un libro consigliatissimo!!

It will broaden your cooking.
Ah the summer!!!!! It was time for me to become a BBQ king and this book really has some interesting recipes. It doesn't stop me burning the food but it will broaden your cooking.

Massive!
I bought this as a present for my husband. I didn't expect it to be half as big as it is. It's huge and full of great recipes and ideas. You probably would never need another BBQ book.
