ikan DS1 Beholder Gimbal for DSLR - Black

I've been using the Ikan DS1 Gimbal for a couple of weeks now, and I think it's amazing. You've got to understand what you are getting before you get it. This gimbal gives you great smooth camera movements, just like any other gimbals. You just have to cater to the weaknesses of a handheld gimbal... By that, I mean you have focus a little more on the weight you are putting on the gimbal, and you have to worry about balance relative to camera size... Once I found that using a lens that weighed significantly less than the camera body makes setup quick and painless, I can't say enough good things about the DS1. I'M GOING TO START BY PROVIDING MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE "DJI RONIN" THEN COMPARE THAT TO MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE IKAN DS1. Disclaimer: I know that the two gimbals are very different, with different capabilities. But these stabilizers serve one purpose and that is to help get smooth camera movements. Both gimbals can get you the same shot... i'm comparing the two in regard to how they effect my workflow. I have used the DJI Ronin (Not the Ronin M) with a Canon 7D Mkii and Tokina 11-16 f/2.8... I loved the Ronin and It made me want a Gimbal of my own, HOWEVER, there were some issues that I had with it. • It was SOOOO hard to use for more than a few minutes because it was so heavy... and I had to use it for an entire weekend. • It was large. It was in a case more than twice the size of my Pelican 1510 (carry-on size)... and I feel that its safe to assume that the smaller Ronin M would be in a case AT LEAST the size of my Pelican case. Either way, the Ronin doubles the size of the equipment I have to lug around. • It took a bit of time to set up and break down with the stand and all the pieces that had to be assembled every time it was taken out of the case... then it took a while to balance every single time I used the thing. • The DJI motor freaked out on my a bit (So has the DS1, but I'll get into that later) Now, I have a Panasonic GH4 with the Ikan DS1... MUCH smaller camera... MUCH smaller gimbal. Right out of the box I had one major issue. My camera/lens combination. The camera/lens combo was never an issue on the DJI Ronin. The Tokina 11-16 is great for stabilizers in that it can get nearly everything in focus at one time... the only problem is that the lens weighs 1.2 lbs, which makes in nearly impossible to balance on the 1.2 lb. Panasonic GH4. (I could get it balanced, but I had to slide the camera back so far that if I tried to make the camera look up 10 degrees, the view finder would hit the gimbal and the motors would freak out... I think the heavier lens would work fine if the camera body were heavier). So I bought the Rokinon 12mm f.2.0... problem solved. So, with the Panasonic GH4, Rokinon 12mm f/2.0, and the Ikan DS1, I was up and running. • Where the DJI was insanely heavy - the DS1 was light. I could use it all day. • The setup was tiny... I can fit my entire setup (GH4, 3 lenses, Top Handle, Rode VideoMicro, batteries, tools, chargers, flash, and the Ikan DS1) in one case. • Setup is quick. If the camera/lens combo is is good, setup takes like 30-45 seconds. • The DS1 motors freak out on me every once in a while, but its different than when the DJI freaked out on me. The DJI freaked out on me more often and I had to re-calibrate it with the app and power it on and off a few times and I NEVER KNEW WHY... The DS1 only freaks out on me when I position the camera in a way that stresses the motors (primarily when the camera is positioned straight side by side to the handle... which is an easy position to avoid. After the first few times using the gimbal I almost never do it). So the DS1 has allowed me to achieve the same camera movements as the DJI Ronin, at a much lower cost, in a much more portable setup, that can be assembled more quickly. The only downsides are the obvious downsides that will be present in ALL handheld gimbals... it can't handle a lot of weight and you have to worry about camera/lens combinations (not really an issue once you've found a good combo). I highly recommend this thing.

Ich vergebe ungern so schlechte Bewertungen, dass Produkt ist nicht empfehlenswert. Das habe ich für mich in meiner Konfig festgestellt. Ich verwende eine Canon 80D mit dem 50mm (1.4) ca. (1000g) Objektiv sowie ein Tamron 24-70 (2.8) Objektiv (ca. 1400g) Ich habe beide Objektive getestet. Verpackung Verpackung ist soweit in Ordnung, nicht wertig. Der mit gelieferte Case ist klein und stabil. Das war absolut in Ordnung. Die Stromversorgung Über ein USB Kabel kann die Batterie geladen werden. Da das Ladegerät für den US - Markt produziert wurde, hat man einen Adapter beigelegt. Ich glaube, der Adapter kam von Amazon, weil der num Karton und nicht im Case lag. Der Adapter ist minderwertig und lies sich ohne Zange nicht mehr aus der Steckdose entfernen. Ladevorgang Die Batterien werden in einen Box installiert die dann direkt über ein USB Kabel geladen werden. Soweit so gut, für mich sieht das semiprofessionell aus. Die Batterien können nicht direkt im Gimbal geladen werden. Anleitung In einem schlechten Englisch wird auf vier Seiten versucht zu erklären, was einige Stunden in Anspruch nimmt und sehr schwierig ist. Das Gimbal zu kalibrieren. Hier hätte ich mir mehr erwartet. Zum Glück gibt es gute Youtube Videos. Jetzt kommen wir zum wichtigsten Punkt: Kalibrierung Ich habe versucht die Kalibrierung gemäß dem Youtube Video durchzuführen. Nach mehreren Stunden hat es endlich funktioniert, aber nur eingeschränkt. Ich konnte nur mein 50mm Objektiv verwenden. Mit dem Tamron hat es nicht funktioniert. Zu dem muss ich die Schnellwechselplatte zur Kalibrierung verwenden. Das bedeutet für mich, sobald ich die Kamera runternehme um z.B. den Akku zu wechseln, geht die Kalibrierung neu los. Was für ein Krampf. Verarbeitung Die Verarbeitung hat mich überrascht. Keine scharfen Kanten, sauber verarbeitet. Insgesamt macht das Produkt einen hochwertigen Eindruck. Die Größe ist sehr gut, passt überall rein. Betrieb Gewicht ist mit 1,6kg angegeben, aber ich glaube, der Stabilizer hatte mit dem Gewicht einfach Probleme. Hin und wieder hat der Gimbal in diversen Positionen gezuckt und geruckelt, was sich natürlich auf das Bild auswirkt...Schade. Man kann die Position der Kamera nur über den Joystick steuern, nicht manuell. Die Bewegungen sind schnell und nicht smooth...Den Follow Mode einzustellen ist ein Krampf. Dabei verändert man eher den Neigungswinkel der Kamera anstatt den Follow Mode zu aktivieren. Zu dem ist der Joystick vorne. Ich sehe nicht genau was ich genau drücke. Insgesamt ist das Gimbal in der Kombi beeindruckend schwer. Fazit: In der Kamerakombination kann ich das Produkt nicht empfehlen. Handhabung einfach fast unmöglich. Schade.

Just received my DS1 a few days ago. I am using it with my Sony A7Rii and a Zeiss 35mm 1.4. After spending a few hours with it.... Pros: - Nice handle - Setup time is fast - Batteries came charged - Instructions are easy to follow - Build quality is great - Carrying case is a nice addition - Can work with heavier setups - Great for smooth follow shots, "dolly" shots, etc. Cons: - My 35mm couldn't balance correctly, but the motors could handle it - Eye piece of my camera had to come off because it sat too far back (not really an issue to me though) - Batteries take a long time to charge and are on paper to last 3 hours, so buy more - Doesn't swivel 360 - Once you hit the end of your rotation, gives a vibration (could be awkward at first) These are things I noticed after a few hours of use. I will continue to update this as I learn more about the device as I continue to use it. Great overall build, easy setup, affordable, and strong motors. Great for light camera setups.

Offenbar liegt der Schwerpunkt einer Panasonic FZ1000 völlig falsch für das IKAN DS1 Beholder Gimbal, denn nach 6 Stunden Probierens mit diversen Hilfsvideos mussten wir eingestehen: Es passt einfach nicht! Die Bodenplatte war für den Kameraschwerpunkt zu kurz, selbst mit der Zusatzplatte (eigentlich für kleine, leichte Cams) war keine Balance zu erreichen. Der optische Suche stieß hinten bereits an einen Motor, Überkopf Aufnahmen waren überhaupt nicht möglich, da die Kamera zu hoch war, um den Haltegriff über Kopf zu führen. Während es mit unserer Sony DSLR Eos 70D vernünftig funktionierte, bestand bei der FZ1000 leider keine Chance. Dies mag wohl noch auf diverse weitere Kameras zu treffen. Wie bereits in anderen Reviews erwähnt kommt das DS1 Gimbal ohne Konformitätserklärung und ohne deutsche Anleitung, womit es von Amazon überhaupt nicht auf den deutschen Markt gebracht werden dürfte. Übrigens, damit sich niemand ärgert: Ich habe das Gerät am 27.07. für 721 EUR bestellt - dies war in den letzten 4 Wochen der Standardpreis, also kein Aktionsangebot - und nur 24 Stunden später erhöhte Amazon den Preis auf nunmehr 811,06 EUR. Ein satter Anstieg von 90 EUR. Dies nur mal als Orientierung, damit niemand einer solchen kurzfristen Erhöhung zum Opfer fällt, solange das Gerät noch nicht flächendeckend in Deutschland verfügbar ist. Lange Rede kurzer Sinn: Das IKAN DS1 ist gut verarbeitet, allerdings nicht für alle aktuellen Kameras geeignet. Die Austarierung ist aufwändig, zudem sind Englisch- (oder Mandarin-)Kenntnisse nötig. Ich habe Erfahrung mit Schwebestativen und bin auch der Englischen Sprache mächtig, das Scheitern liegt also nicht am eigenen Unvermögen.
