Is it safe to emerge the cords in water?, especially while it’s plugged in?

Yes it’s safe but don’t use hot water: it will damage the plastic thing that sends water to the fountain

How long can I expect the motor to last ? Can I expect at least a year out of it ?

You could probably expect a year, maybe more. I do not have my fountain turned on all the time, and unplug it when not in use. However my Buddha water fountain is in my media/exercise room and not used every day.

Could it be used as a pet drinking fountain?

No: it needs to be cleaned every week

Doess this increase indoor hunmidity?

I would venture to guess it does. This water fountain contains water that does evaporate. You will have to refill the water when water level gets low. Look at the dimensions. It is an item that fits nicely on a small table.
