With a very strong tin opener as these can easily brake weak ones into peices 🤔 you need one to get a small hole open on the very edge to get a grip on the can then you can turn a retro/strong can opener all around the edges with a strong wrist 😬 then you need to twist the end of the pie lid off to get it in the oven at the end if it's still attached as it often is 😬 I can rarely get 100% around the lid these days & butterfly can-openers are pot-luck if they last Or not 💀💀 had so many duds I'm used to having these pies now & again for years so I won't be defeated by the steel shell 🙊😆

Why is it called gentle

Because it's as it says on the tin. You obviously didn't get one of the limited edition ones. I'd ask for a refund as it's not " as advertised"
