Convenience and ease of use.
Update, 1/27/20Finally decided to use the built in DAC, it works well and i enjoy the sound signature. No complaints and honestly allot of praise. This unit may not satisfy true high end audiophiles but should work really well for the other 90% of us looking for some streaming convenience.Original review:I did not need nor do I have the ability to use the added features of the newer model so i chose the original and could not be happier with the convenience and ease of use. I’m not trained enough to hear any of the subtle nuances lost in my music due to using BT nor do i have equipment good enough to care. This little gadget lets me stream Tidal, pandora, amazon, spotify and my own files and I’m no longer tethered by a 16ft USB cable running across my living room trying to play my system off my laptop. Now i can use my phone or tablets to stream direct to my stereo. I get 45feet of distance from my kitchen to my living room uninterrupted. Sound quality seems fine and the unit fired up within seconds. I used coaxial to an SMSL SU8 dac to Emotiva PA-1 monoblocks feeding Klipsch Heresy speakers. It’s a party all the time now and the girlfriend loves how easy this thing is to use, no more complicated start up sequences or worries of blowing anything up. This thing is worth its weight in gold if for no other reason that it quelled the nagging in my home over getting the music going. YMMV

Best in it's class!! An outstanding value!
This is a unbiased and unsolicited review of a truly exceptional product (hence my overall enthusiasm)!!I write a minimal amount of reviews. If a product is just OK, I'll tend to avoid reviewing it. The same holds true for a product that I dislike (as I prefer not to submit negative reviews). I've been discouraged by many different types of electronics.I need to be very enthusiastic in order to invest the time reviewing a product. This is one of those rare exceptions!Every once and awhile, a product comes along that's truly a surprising value (a rarity these days)!Yes, there are numerous less expensive BT receivers. I've tested several of them. They ranged from just decent (aka, mediocre) to good overall.Their range was limited (relative to the claims made) and there were variations and inconsistencies in audio quality. In fact, in some cases, I was even pleasantly surprised (with the BT format in general).By comparison, this device blew me away!!Although I wasn't able to stretch the range to it's max, I'm using it at approx. 50 ft. and it works perfectly. That's good.... but what's truly great is the audio quality that it produces!Anyone that thinks that the BT format is limited in quality and that there's little difference between these units is sadly mistaken! I tend to be a purist when it comes to audio. I have a long history of owning high quality separate components and high end receivers (primarily for surround sound purposes). BT isn't going to provide the audio quality that other sources will (such as certain CD's played on high end players or vinyl played on high end turntables w/high end cartridges). However, you'll discover that BT is far better than you'd imagine when processed by this device!I waited quite awhile to write this review, as I wanted to listen to various tracks and compare them to the CD versions (played on a high end player). I was really impressed with the quality that this device produces! I haven't had the opportunity to compare it with the "Audioengine" BT receiver (the so-called "gold standard") but several other (respectable) reviewers have and some even preferred this one. Also, consider the fact that there's a considerable price difference between the two. There's no point in going into the technology and inner workings of this device, as it's already been covered here.In conclusion, buy it and listen to it with an open mind. Of course, the quality of your audio system is an important factor but my true belief is that it will sound impressive even with just a decent quality system and decent quality speakers. It truly brings the best that the BT format had to offer and it's obvious that the build quality is superior to most similar devices. That's based on the parts quality (discussed here in other reviews) and the above average audio quality that it produces.Buy it! You'll be truly impressed!

Great little gadget for my existing setup
I am getting this BT receiver to add “modern” convenience to my existing sound systems. I have newer BT speakers such as Sony XB7, LG FH6 and a few JBL Flips. They are so easy and convenient, we rarely use my old sound system anymore. These BT speakers sound good, but not as good as my good old pals. The original BLT-2 I received had problem with hissing when music plays. Emailed seller and worked with their tech support. They quickly sent me a replacement. This device connects quickly and easily. It is always on standby just like my Sony and LG Bluetooth speakers. That means you can wake it up by pairing it with your phone. BLT comes with a DAC and it sounds good. Better than the BT chip used in Sony and LG. There are no startup POPs or Clicks when connecting and there is no audible floor noise. Another bonus is that the DAC retains Left/Right stereo channels.I did the following A/B test with my 3.5mm cable against the BLT-2. Source is Galaxy S7, using PowerAmp, playing 24bits 48khz MP3 files.BLT with TDK BoomboxBLT to tube-amp to AGK 240 headphone BLT to Sony AV receiver to 7.1 speakersBLT to Mackie ProFX12 mixer to KRK active monitor speakersBLT to Crown XLI 1500 amp to two 12” PA speakersThey all sound as good as wired with no extra noise. Only thing I noticed is that the volume is not as loud as going thru 3.5mm cable. I am not sure if it has to do with the output voltage of the BLT. Maybe using a different USB power plug will make a difference? Have not try that yet. I am using an old left over LGphone power plug that is rated 5v DC 0.6A.Another thing to consider before buying this BLT or any Bluetooth receiver is that there is going to be a lag. That means you can’t use this for mixing or beatmatching. But for movie and music listening, it will be fine. This BLT actual has the least lag compare to other BT speakers I owned. Sony XB7 has the worse lag. LG’s is a little better but still noticeable. JBL is better than the LG. This BLT beats them all with the APTX.I have no complaint for this receiver itself for sound quality and range. I am happy that I have Bluetooth capability now with my old system. I was going to take a star off because of the accessories it came with. RCA cable it came with is too loose, the USB cable is too short. I end up using my own cables. However, Customer Service was great and responded promptly.

Poor range and interference abounds
1 star because the range is so small AND it loses connection with almost any wall or large solid object in line of sight.
