My Pizza oven performance is changed with it. It's quite necessary for even baking

This little door does its job when it is windy outside. It doesn’t provide a perfect seal, and isn’t supposed to, it just blocks the wind coming in the pizza hole while leaving a gap on the top. It is pretty easy to finagle and the handle stays cool so you don’t need gloves.

Very difficult to put in place. When the oven is hot, you can’t hold the oven to manipulate the cover. That makes it almost unusable. Once in place, it does a good job of keeping the heat in. To work around it the bad design, I use oven mits to lift the whole top and then slide the cover in place.

The door really seems to be an afterthought. Does not fits well and hard to slide (cause you need to slide it metal on metal) and even if it permits to go get 50 to 100 degrees F more, you get the feel that the oven was not meant to go that high. Pizza crust under the pizza cooks way to fast when you compare to the top of the pie. Better to use without a door, let the oven reach 725+ then use. If you want an oven that goes the real way to up to 900F go get a Unni 3 wood oven.
