Flourish Excel Bioavailable Carbon - Organic Carbon Source for Aquatic Plants 100 ml

This stuff is amazing. I had a nasty case of black beard algae all over my live plants and decor. The aquarium contains a betta, a few corydoras, several tetras, a couple mystery snails, a couple nerite snails and a bunch of neo shrimp. If you've ever had black beard algae you understand just how quickly this stuff can spread and take over your aquarium. I started using Flourish Excel along with an iron/potassium supplement and the black beard algae is almost gone after just a couple weeks. Amazing! And best of all it didn't kill or harm any of the creatures or plants in my tank, in fact, the plants look healthier, the water smells cleaner and the shrimp seem happier and more active than ever before while keeping my plants and substrate clean.

I bought this to kill off the black beard algae (BBA) in my tank. The added benefit is that my plants LOVE the extra nutrients (which is probably why I had BBA in the first place...) Anyway, if you're treating for BBA, be sure to turn off all filtration, pumps, and airstones first, then use a 1 mL syringe to dose on top of the BBA, wait 10 min, then turn back on your pumps etc. If you try treating the BBA when there's water movement, it's no where near as effective. I treat the BBA with the recommended dose about once every 1-2 days in my 20 gallon (and reduce the time my light is on from 10 hours to 7 hours), and I see a massive improvement. DON'T OVERDOSE when treating the algae. Just use the recommended amount and treat small sections at a time. Algae will turn red when dead, and you're algae eaters will take care of the rest.

Buyer Beware! DO NOT BUY FROM FAT HAPPY PETS!!! I bought this from this seller, the safety seal was not intact. I found it loose on top of the container when I opened the lid. The lid was also taped shut. So far my plants look good, not sure if it is this product or their flourite dirt. I have never bought this item before so I am unsure if I got the real thing. It has a smell but is clear and looks like water. I put my hand in the tank and I have no skin reactions. I know other reviewers have said this can irritate the skin. I recommend getting a syringe to dose this product, I have a 5 gallon tank so getting .5mL with a syringe is the only option for me.

I use Excel with Flourish to take care of my plants and keep away algae. think this has really helped my crypts perk up after melting in a new tank. Get an eye dropper to accurately measure the dose because overdoing it could be toxic.

A must in my opinion for any aquarium enthusiast with a planted tank. This provides some necessary nutrition for water borne plants and helps with healthy growth. Since using my plants have been flourishing and lots of healthy growth which means happy fish. Lasts quite a while for me as only have a small tank. As the plants flourish they compete with algae for nutrients and then causes algae to decline.
