Sacajawea

Very Well Researched
Told in alternating voices of Clark and Sacajawea, Sacajawea tells the story of the Corps of Discovery as if the two were answering young Pomp’s (Jean Baptiste Charbonneau) questions. It is extremely well researched, often paraphrasing from the actual journals written by Lewis and Clark. The two voices are very distinct making it easy to identify the current speaker. At times it dragged, however, making it easy to put down for a while. I recommend it to anyone wanting to learn more about the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

Enjoyable
Sacajawea was the Indian teen that acted as guide and translator to Louis and Clark's expedition across the north-western territory that would soon become part of the United States with the Louisianna Purchase. Read about Sacajawea's early years, how she was pledged in marriage as a child. Stolen by a raiding party when only eleven and subsequently lost to a traveler while the new tribe was gambling with her. Married soon there after and giving birth all before the age of sixteen. And the interesting part of her life was yet to come. The book also covers the expedition and its encounters while exploring the new land and the many Indian tribes the met. It is told in alternating view points of Sacajawea and Captain Clark. Their views on the happenings around them are very interesting. It is apparent how time and time again Sacajawea, or Janey as the expetition named her, was indespensible. Read between the lines to see the bond that formed between Sacajawea and Captain Clark. This is an outstanding book that I recommend to adults as well as teens. Very informative and easy to read. The chapters were short and it was interesting how they altered from one view to the other and back.

Read this book!
My daughter and I are currently reading this Kindle edition book for her book report. It is very nice that she is able to highlight the information that she made need to refer back to for her report. Even though, from my understanding, Sacajawea did not have any entries in a diary, her possible thoughts are include in this book. One can appreciate from others observations that she, through her actions, was a courageous and strong woman, considering that she was with her infant child and the only woman on this long difficult trip to the Pacific Ocean. I would recommend this book for anyone who would like some true insight into Sacajawea's life during this time in history.

What a woman!
Sacajawea was a fascinating woman of her time. This story is told from her son's viewpoint on what was told to him by both his mother and others who were around her. She opened the Western land to people from the East, and helped save both Lewis and Clark's lives several times, not to mention others in the scouting party. Very interesting!

Great resource for history or ELA!
My daughter loved this book. Learned a lot about Sacajawea, Lewis and Clark’s adventures, and about different points-of-view.

Many years ago I read Anna Lee Waldo's epic version of 1359 pages, it still remains in my collection of favourite books. When I fancied reading it again I was disappointed that it wasn't in Kindle so I tried this one. In contrast this is a summary of events and the part Sacajawea played in guiding and translating is a little understated. It was still an enjoyable read but better suited to young historians.

Native American Culture.
Have a feeling that this is an abridged version; if so it was not value for money.
