Q: Are these the lightest and how light do regular strings go?

These are medium lights, they are the best stings I have ever used. I typically wouldn't go above 10 or 11 on the high end and I'd try to stay in the 40's on the low end. But each brand will have their own gauges so I'd look around at brands like Earny Ball and D'addario

Q: What is the life of these? D'addario and others rust in a day or break on me.

Excellent. These do not rust up on me like Ernie Balls. I use a string lube/cleaner and can go a few months before I decide to change them out, only broken a handful of strings in the past few years.
