Great Summer kit!
After 30 years of using the old frozen bowl machine for making ice cream, I finally succumbed and got the smallest electric ice cream maker I could find. And what liberation! No more waiting 24 hours for a bowl to freeze and being able to make successive ice creams consecutively. I am converted! I've only owned this for 2 months and used it 4 times, so time will tell re its longevity. Pros: 1. Good price (~£100). 2. Smallest electric machine - though I'm still trying to find a storage space for it in the kitchen! 3. Easy to clean - certainly nicer not to fumble at the sink with a frozen bowl and little plastic parts. 4. No need to block up your freezer with a bulky ice cream bowl. 5. You don't have to prepare to make ice cream at least 24 hours in advance of actually making ice cream! 6. Ice cream doesn't start to melt because the machine keeps it cold while churning. With the little machines, the bowls start to defrost as they are churning, and you get cold ice cream at the bottom of the bowl and milk-shake at the top! 7. I like the friendly plastic white, rather than an industrial stainless steel look, which usually shows up stains, fingerprints etc etc. Cons: 1. Still a bulky machine so think hard if you have little space in your kitchen to hold yet another gadget. 2. The volume of the little pail in which you make the ice cream is relatively small so you can only make little batches. 3. You can store freshly-made ice cream in the little pail but not sure where to buy more of them so you don't have to decant, wash and re-use the one pail. I asked on the Amazon questions and got silly answers. The seller never responded. One word of advice: be careful how you insert the paddle and top onto the machine. You must align the motor lid arrow with the lock on the machine, or it doesn't work. I spent some frazzled hours puzzling over why the paddle sometimes rotated, and other times, only the chiller came on. Update 18 months later: Several niggling irritants have surfaced, though not enough for me to hate the machine. They include: 1. The stainless steel bowl is not stainless steel and cannot survive the dishwasher! 2. Cleaning the machine around the steel bowl can be very fiddly. Ditto the motor. Both these problematic spills occur if you stop the machine to check on the ice cream, which does drip everywhere. And DO NOT turn the motor with paddle upside-down - ice cream mixture will flow backwards into the motor. 3. There is no spout like some machines, which allows you to dribble ingredients in throughout the churning process, eg drizzling in melted chocolate for Stracciatella ice cream. 4. With respect to points 2 and 3 above, making ice cream such as Stracciatella is difficult because you have to stop the machine whilst churning, to add ingredients, thereby dripping liquid ice cream everywhere no matter how hard you try to be tidy. 5. I note that the machine now makes 2l of ice cream at a go (instead of 1l), looks far bigger than my cute little plastic machine (where to store?) and costs £280, compared to the £100 I paid...

Brilliant ice cream machine
Spent ages deciding which machine to buy. Researched extensively. I was tied between this and the ninja ice cream machine. I chose to give this a try! And I do not regret this decision at all. Yes it’s a little bulky; but any machine that refrigerates/freezes will be. But you don’t have to remember to pre freeze anything. And it’s slightly noisy. But no more noisy than a stand mixer on high. You can just decide to make ice cream, and just do it! No pre freezing the parts So far everything we’ve tried has come out fab. The only exception was one recipe mix up, that was me not the machine. The basic ice cream recipe in the booklet works well as a base for vanilla; then add additional flavours as you prefer. I only think the sugar level was too high. I halved it and for us that was totally ok. I personally could lower it more. But my hubby likes his ice cream sweeter than me. Tip add a shot of alcohol to keep the ice cream easier to serve after freezing. Vodka doesn’t change the flavour and alters freezing point to keep the ice cream softer Clean up is easy. The important bits come off for washing. Would I buy it again! Definitely. And my friend who bought the ninja ice cream maker has already given up on hers. Keep an eye on the price. It does fluctuate. Like today there’s a 20 % off voucher.

Great product! Simple to operate with great results! Take care be gentle handling mixing bowl and paddle alignment key to long term wear X tear! Cleaning simple! Remember the fill guidance! Only negative weight so if it can fit without moving to store in between use you'll do yourself a favour. Thanks Amazon purchased after voucher deal. Yummy so far 4 different batches made best support to buy a ice cream maker 'machine' book as included instructions x leaflet not comprehensive.

Better than Mr Whippy...yes it really is
If you love Mr Whippy you will really appreciate this machine. No pre freezing of bowls so much quicker and more spontaneous. You can set if off and then have a cuppa and start to make dinner. Then it's almost timed right to be ready in time for dessert. The recipes are easy but for the chocolate version we just use 4 heaped Spoons of chocolate powder. The best ice cream I have ever had and you know what's gone into the mix. It also has recipes for frozen yoghurt and sorbet. You won't regret buying it and we use it at least twice a week as a very small family. You can freeze the ice cream you make too so you'll always have some in the freezer or if you need a larger amount for more than a 4 person dinner. I know its more money but I feel it will have paid itself off by next year as we don't need to spend £10 for 2 ice creams from the ice cream van. And our is better. Also good if you have alternative dietary requirements or like us prefer organic milk and cream. The texture is just like Mr Whippy. Can be a little noisy but just shut the kitchen door. Easy to clean too. It does take up a bit of room on the kitchen worktop so we put it on the kitchen table but it takes up the same space as our bread machine for an idea. Still I'd opt for less space and awesome ice cream even with my small kitchen.

Fast and efficient ice cream maker
I love how easy this was to use - it made a superb batch of ice cream, with possibly the best texture of any homemade ice cream I have made. Compared to my old pre-freeze model, it is incredibly quiet too. It is quite small though - I made a recipe that said it was around 1 litre, but had to stop the machine and remove a couple of spoonfuls because it looked as if it was going to overflow once it started to firm up with the churning. That's no problem though, just a matter of experience and adjustment for next time. Easy to clean too. I think this will be used regularly in our house!
