Sterilite 38 Gal Industrial Tote, Stackable Storage Bin with Snap-Fit Lid for Garage, Basement & Attic Storage, Black Base and Yellow Lily Lid, 4-Pack

We bought these at the recommendation of others for checking belongings for a move to Costa Rica. While many of our belongings are being shipped via boat by a moving company, you can't bring any food or liquids or toiletries that way, so those sorts of things have to come via air, and these are just the right size to maximize space for a "checked bag" on a typical airline. Each trip we have made from the US to CR during the buying, moving, and selling our old home process, we've brought 4 more of these along (2 checked bags each for my husband and me). It has allowed us to bring SO much with us that would have been a real struggle if we were sticking to luggage, and we've kept them in CR to use for storage. There are lots of plans available online and on youtube for building large standing racks (or ceiling racks) where you can slide these right in to have a wall or ceiling full of storage bins (which my husband is going to make for his workshop). Every expat I know in Costa Rica has used bins just like this for their moves, sometimes bringing 10+ at a time! They WILL work at your airline, and as long as it's 50lbs or less it's a regular baggage fee. If you go over weight (which we erroneously did with one) it will cost more, but it's still SO worthwhile. Using layers of clothes, and sandwiched between layers of plastic wrap for potential leaks or breaks, I was able to bring my entire nail polish collection (200ish bottles of fancy stuff) in one crate - I could have fit significantly more in the crate, but it was already at about 48 pounds at that point. I slapped fragile stickers on all sides of the crates, and everything arrived safely, no breakage. (There was much debate about how to pack and fly with so much nail polish in an online group I'm in for my favorite brand - it was amazing how invested people got in the outcome and whether my collection might be damaged or taken away at some point along the way. At CR customs, when our luggage went through the X-ray machine, they wanted to look inside (the hundreds of spaced out small bottles of liquid must have been very unusual looking). They were confused as they started pulling out bubble wrap and layers of clothes as my husband tried to come up with the words for "Nail Polish" in Spanish for the customs agent. He gestured towards me about 15 feet ahead, and I just flashed a smile and waggled my fabulously painted nails in their direction and the agent laughed and shut the box. I highly recommend these for checked baggage air travel!! We used plenty of padding (clothing and/or bubble wrap, and zip tied them shut (there were 2 places to do that on each long side), while leaving extra zip ties inside on top just in case somewhere along the way someone needed to open and inspect them, they could re-zip tie them shut. They stayed locked and sealed perfectly, very sturdy, nothing broke or otherwise went awry!

I purchased this storage tub to help organize my garage, and it exceeded my expectations. The plastic is heavy-duty and doesn’t flex or crack, even when it’s full. These are tremendous! You could easily fit a king size puffy quilt in one if you squished just some of the air out of it. Some volume is outstanding. However, they would Crack if filled with heavy stuff - because you could easily overbear them weight wise.

One lid was cracked and no way to contact for replacement. Otherwise they are nice and sturdy.

Well made and sturdy. Lids close tightly. Easy to stack for storage purposes. I ordered these for a home move and don’t regret it at all. Beats moving boxes and after you empty them you can utilize them for other the storage needs that come up. They are a good value for the money.

Plastic totes at that accurate dimensionally. Turns out these where more expensive then buying them locally but quality was spot on with this item.

I love these. I have no idea how much I've already spent on them, but I love them that much. They stand up to Canadian winters outside!!! And the things inside stay dry, and sealed and protected. I couldn't have found a better product than these bins!

These bins are great for storing many different things. The base of each bin slots firmly into the lid of the one beneath making a stack of these things much more difficult to tip over. I like the eyelets that allow you to lock the bins or seal them off with zip ties to prevent the lids coming off if you are transporting something in an an open bed pickup truck for example. The hand grips are comfortable and the bins themselves are attractive. I'm happy with my purchase.
