The Paper Bag Princess (Classic Munsch) : Munsch, Robert, Martchenko, Michael: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Excellent book - Excellent, clever tale on stereotypes! Review: A Modern Fairytale - Bought as a gift for bedtime reading. Fantastic story with strong female role model. Will be good for all ages but especially as an antidote to all the sickly “and they lived happily ever after” stories, because “I lived happily ever after” is better.

A Modern Fairytale
Bought as a gift for bedtime reading. Fantastic story with strong female role model. Will be good for all ages but especially as an antidote to all the sickly “and they lived happily ever after” stories, because “I lived happily ever after” is better.

Fabulous feminist fairytale.
A fabulous story about a brave and wonderful girl, who refuses to be defined by her wardrobe. My grandsons love the story - and it is an important message everyone, no matter their age of gender.

Fantastic take on a princess story
My 4 year old daughter like most 4 year old girls is massively into princesses, most of which sit around looking pretty waiting for a prince to come and rescue and marry them. This is the opposite - the princess has to rescue the prince dressed only in a paper bag and then decides he is not worth it anyway. I love it and I am sure she will too!

Nice twist but unbending and uncompromising
I was pointed towards this book by a number of feminist websites who advocate it as a good book for young girls as it isn't the usual princess fare. In the story, Princess Elizabeth is going to marry prince Ronald until a dragon comes and burns down her castle, burns her clothes and flies off with Ronald. Elizabeth must dress in the only clothes she can find (a paper bag) and go and rescue her Prince. She manages to outsmart the dragon but because Ronald is critical of her appearance she decides she won't marry him. I understand the appeal of the book; this is a princess who goes and gets what she wants but I found the ending a bit too abrupt and thought that she could have been a little less rude! I don't know if it is good to turn round and call someone a `bum' even if they have just insulted you; I would prefer to teach my children to rise above the comments made about them and maintain their dignity. It's better than the usual pink princess rubbish but I would still rather the book had remained positive in tone!

Buy the paper book NOT the kindle version.
I love this book and always have a copy to read to my class , the school, the Godchildren, neighbours children. It's fun but has a great message about loyalty, gratitude and perseverance....you name it its a versatile book However beware the last line is the key to the whole book and the kindle version has the words " you are a bum" which doesn't work for me as working or reading to children. The book version is much better "you are a toad". Do please read....it's a classic.

Funny little book and kids love the bum mention!
The kids in my year 2 class loved this book. We used it for a 2 week English block. Suspect main reason they liked it was the word ‘bum’ on the last page though!

Fantastic message
I purchased this for my 3 year old as I remember reading it when I was little. I had forgotten what an incredible message this has, a strong, brave princess rescues the prince and figures out that appearances are absolutely not everything. A brilliant read and an important message for both boys and girls.

a marvelous book that shows us how unimportant looks are compared to a good character. And it's good for a good laugh!

If you know someone that is having a girl, this is an absolute essential. Such a great storyline for any woman, regardless of age. This makes an excellent baby shower gift.

Libro favoloso con una componente girl power che lo distingue da storie classiche di principessa. Tutte le bambine adorerano. L'hoccomprato almeno 5volte per le figlie delle mie amiche
