Based on Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling book series and Executive Produced by Ronald D. Moore, OUTLANDER spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history and adventure as it follows Claire Randall, a married World War II combat nurse who mistakenly falls back in time to 1743. Forced by circumstance to marry Jamie Fraser, an outlawed Highlander, she finds herself falling in love and torn by her loyalties to two men in vastly different times. Claire must reconcile her modern mindset with this 18th Century world amidst threats from ruthless Redcoats, volatile clan politics and a brutal witch trial – and ultimately discovers that there is a fate worse than death as she must struggle to save Jamie’s heart, as well as his soul. Would recommend, thank you Review: Outlander : The Complete Series One - I must admit that I stumbled upon this TV series by accident and had never heard of Diana Gabaldon until I found out that it is based on her series of novels. Not being a particular fan of romance, I came to the series as a fan of time travel and Scottish history. Claire Randall, brilliantly played by Catriona Balfe, is a combat nurse and honeymooning with her husband Frank, played by Tobias Menzies, who wanders off to explore some standing stones near Inverness. Whilst out walking she touches a key stone and finds herself transported back in time to 1745 and the Jacobite Risings. She finds herself kidnapped by a group of Clansman warriors and taken back to their Highland stronghold, where she is forced to work as a healer, during this time she treats the wounds of a young warrior, Jamie Fraser played by the brilliant, Sam Heughan, who had escaped the Redcoat army and an ancestor of Claire's husband, Captain Jack Randall. The season follows the start of a loving if quarrelsome relationship, and we see them grow together as they become embroiled in clan politics and the attempts to bring Prince Charlie to the Scottish throne. Volume Two see's Jamie return to his rightful land as Laird, has a witch trial and a most horrific homosexual rape scene, in which Captain Randall turns out to be a total sexual psychopath. Those scenes I found very difficult to watch, and more sickening than some scenes in Games of Thrones. Despite the horrors of torture, mutilation and rape, I found Outlander to be an excellent series overall, with great acting and camera work throughout. My purchase was the boxed set of the Complete Series 1 which comprises 16 episodes on 6 discs, with a running time of over 14 hours and some extras. Released in 2014/15 With English Subtitles. Fantastic
Outlander is one of the best things that 'box set culture' has given us. Based on the first novel by Diana Gabaldon it set itself a challlenge - the novel is huge, complex and packed with incidents. Time travel, historical novel and romance are forged together. The story of Claire Randall, a nurse in World War II, married and looking forward to her life after war but suddenly finds herself in a very different place - Scotland on the eve of the 1745 Rising. She also finds herself compelled to marry a young Highlander. The series covers a great deal of ground - her discovery of the society of that period, her developing passion for her 'new' husband and her descent into some very dark and dangerous events. The early episodes are fairly light and include some very explicit sex scenes. But, the faint hearted be warned, the last two episodes are very violent and include some extremely graphic sexual violence. These later episodes include some remarkable acting. I loved this series and look forward to the next one.

A Fantastic Historical, Romantic Time Travel . Well Worth The Wait.
I loved watching this stunning performance of Outlander. Even my husband watched it. The only thing is that it did differ in parts only to the book. Especially at the scenes where Jamie has been abused sexually by Randall. And at the monastery where Claire uses lavender to rouse Jamie. To try to get him to get up from his bed. Also I am sure in the book there is an underground natural pool/spa where Jamie and Claire are when she says she is with child. But the chemistry between the two is portrayed brilliantly. I would recommend it to anyone. I have all the books and wouldn't part with them for the world. A true historical, as in the research done in Scotland . It is a romantic , time travel novel. Couldn't put the book down and well worth the read.

1743 and all that
Enjoyed the books so gave this a try. The first half of the season has some occasional voice over by Claire which was at times a little annoying with the start of the second half of the season with a few voice overs by Jamie. I liked having the Gaelic with no subtitles so it made the whole Sassenach perspective more effective from my point of view. The season stayed very close to the original story and I'm sure for those who've read the books this is reassuring. For those who haven't read the books, don't worry. The story unfolds well enough to understand what was quite detailed in the books. This series does not pull it's punches. If you don't like gore or quite detailed male rape then step back (it's done very well and covers the psychology to a high standard). A lot of effort has been put in to make this as authentic as possible but at times some parts of the episodes come across as slightly insubstantial hence 4 stars. Dr Who eat your heart out. I prefer this time traveller.

Fantastic, and well worth the wait!!!
I am a massive fan of Diana Gabaldons' 'Cross-stitch' series (UK name) and can read the whole series again and again, without ever getting bored. I was a bit concerned when I heard that they were making a series out of the books, whether they would loose the essence of the books, but thankfully they haven't. Love the series, Sam plays a really good Jamie, and the actress that plays Claire, is growing on me, as I wasn't quite sure at first. The actor that plays Jack/ Frank Randall, is scarily good, as that evil persona comes across when he plays Jack. Can't wait for the next series!!! My only complaint, is that it is only shown on Amazon Prime!!!! Why do that, as I don't want to pay out for another TV network!!

Well it did not follow book exactly but what show ever does? I think the characters were well chosen for their chemistry of working together. Thus even though Jamie is not 6 feet tall his heart matches the Fraser.
