Perfect for running weekend errands in style or doing work around the stable, the Ariat Barn Yard is a versatile boot. It features a mid-cut leather upper with detailed stitching, the stability of a sturdy shank underfoot, and ATS cushioning for serious comfort, this is a technical boot, too. A side zipper makes it easy to slip on and off at a moment's notice. You may buy it for work, but you'll find yourself wearing it all over town. Ariat was founded with one simple objective: to provide the most technologically advanced riding boots for the world's top equestrian athletes. Today, Ariat is the leading performance footwear and apparel brand for equestrian athletes around the world. From show jumping to team penning, Ariat boots provide the foundation upon which world-class athletes work, ride, and compete.

Outstanding Crossover Boots
My second pair. These boots are handsome enough to wear with a skirt, and rugged enough to ride a 50 mile endurance trail in the rain. The old pair is still waterproof, and the zipper has never failed me in 4 years of hard use. I just retired my first pair to work boots only and will save this new pair for nice. If I could make one change, they'd fit a little more snugly in the heel.

Durable but REALLY ugly!
So I love Ariat boots and these paddock boots are stellar as far as comfort and durability. But I feel as though when I look down at my feet these are something Frankenstein's monster would've worn had he had horses to look after. The footbed is cushy and comfortable, the zipper is easy to use when piece stays inside, and the traction is great. These will do well in the winter time for sure! However I just find that off centered toe embellishment weird to look at, the leather has puckered and wrinkled a bit around the tops and while I've gotten complemented on these boots I think they're sorta clunky and definitely ugly! Not something I'd wear out to dinner, clinics or shows...these are designated for barn only. If I'd only been certain I would've returned them during the window of opportunity, unfortunately I missed it...and Ariat has the same policy, 30 days or if defective contact place that you purchased them (1yr warranty for defective products) but definitely no warranty as far as "if you don't love them we'll take them back"....

Great Winter Boot
Even though I don't ride horses anymore, I love Ariat boots for their quality and how roomy they are. I wear an 8.5 and bought a 9, knowing it would probably be large and they are VERY roomy, but there's room for extra thick socks in winter. If I had gotten an 8.5, they would probably still be roomy. There's enough room in them to put in inserts and not have your foot squished. The ankle area is fairly roomy, so I fold over socks to make it a little more snug.I bought these as my winter boots, and after a couple months, they've held up great. They're good at keeping my feet warm, lots of traction, so they don't slip on sidewalks, and they've done well when I went snow tubing. From my experience they are waterproof, but I haven't been wading through deep pools of water or anything. For the normal rainy sidewalks of Portland, they're great. I've walked for several miles in these without my feet getting sore (without inserts). Some reviewers said that the zippers unzip. That's only happened to me when I run in them. They're definitely not meant for running. Sometimes the zipper on my left shoe comes down maybe a centimeter or less with regular walking, but that's intermittent. Not that noticable.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE These Boots BUT.....
These boots are thoughtfully designed by someone who has spent a lot of time working in a barn. They are, in fact, my dream barn boots! They are easy on/off, provide excellent protection against stomping horse feet (less, maybe, than construction work boots but good enough unless your are spending your entire day working with fractious stallions and/or youngsters), reasonably light weight, with excellent oiled leather and sole construction for fast breaking in and some measure of water/mud resistance. The collar on the top of the boot is very stiff to start with but you can soften it a bit by flexing with your hands. The boots are comfortable with the zipper pulled pulled to just below the collar. After a week, I found I could even walk comfortably for short distances with the zippers undone. This is nirvana since the barn is only a little more than 100 feet from my kitchen door. I'm constantly back and forth all day and HATE to fuss with barn shoes. For doing chores like cleaning stalls, turning horses out or feeding, it's no biggie to lean down and pull the zippers up.BUT... Quality control sucks. This is why you're seeing so many different opinion about the fit.The first pair of these boots arrived and fit absolutely perfectly. I'm a 9 1/2 medium but require a wide toe box due to an old metatarsal injury. The fit was close without being tight. The insole in the foot bed was good but not perfect for my particular needs. There was just enough room to add another thin insert for a perfect correction. However, there was thread knot (from a badly finished seam) on the collar of the boot next to the top of the zipper. The knot pressed so deeply into the skin above my ankle, it left a bruise after the first wearing.Fortunately, Amazon's return/exchange program is painless so I opted to try another pair. This pair did not have the knot. Yippee!! However, the fit was just a little bit roomier. Not a wrong size. Just a roomier fit. The footbed also fit differently. Fortunately for me, this time it was perfect!! so no additional inserts required. My foot didn't move around at all in the roomier boot and there was additional space for heavy socks in the winter.A note on socks. I'm not a foot sweat-er, but my feet did sweat wearing these boots with thin nylon socks. However, I was OK in thin cotton socks and should be fine in heavier wicking winter socks when the time comes. Interestingly, the inside of the boot is well enough finished (if you don't get a pair with a thread knot) that they are comfortable (and sweat free) enough for bare feet.I've only had the boots for a few weeks but am already wondering how I survived without them. As beloved as they are, I still would have given the boots 4 1/2 stars, if possible, due to the uneven quality assurance.

Super comfortable boot with a riding heel.
This is my forth pair of these boots in about 10 years. My first pair was bought through an equine catalog store and the zipper broke after about six months. They replaced them and asked my originals to be sent back to them. So three pair worn daily, winter and summer for about 10 years. Start at the barn for morning chores, feeding, mucking filling drinkers. We have 40 acres that includes some steep terrain so I can confidently say they are a comfortable hiking boot if you find yourself in that position. The zippers make them so easy to put on and take off. I don't find them too warm in the summer and with a heavier sock they are cozy for winter riding. The stitching on top of the toes finally gave way, otherwise they last forever. They are generously sized so chose a half size smaller. Oh they also have a little reflective strip above the heel and they also have a spur rest which I have never used. These are work and riding boots. They are not going to make a fashion statement with your studded jeans!

Super comfy yard boots!
These boots are amazing! They are literally THE most comfortable boots I have ever owned! I am a regular Ariat customer as the quality of their products is always superb - and these boots are no exception. They have a lovely padded ankle, so you don't have to wear longer socks unless you wish to. They were comfortable from the minute I put them on and the quality of the zips, leather upper and tread of the sole are faultless.Dispatch and delivery from Houghton Country was spot on and they arrived when they were expected to, so I'd definitely shop with them again through Amazon.I am living in these boots, I wear them for the yard and walking the dog.I would highly recommend these boots to anyone looking for a comfortable yard / riding / walking boot with no hesitation.

Look great, love these boots.
Arrived in one day. Comfy straight away. Not too heavy. Used them a lot the first evening and very happy. Will use them for walking, outdoor work and riding. I bought size adult 7, they fit just right, I am usually 7.5 - 8. Still loving these weeks later. Great for horse riding as stylish too. I didn't expect them to be waterproof but I don't wear in the rain and on wet grass they haven't leaked yet.
