How does this Zymox cleaner compare to Virbac's epi-Otic? Anyone have used both or any preference?

I have used both. Zymox is his favorite. I would have to hold him down to use the Virbac. No problem with Zymox.

Question 2

Started using this product and now his ears look dirtier than before. Is that just part of the cleansing process? Should I wipe the gunk out?

Yes - wipe out the ear with the cleanser on a cotton pad - this is the deep down stuff coming out.

Question 3

Is this the Otic Solution and if so, is it HC 0.5 or 1.0?

Accepted Answer

No. It is the ear cleanser. The Otic solution is a smaller bottle, and clearly reads Otic Solution 1.0 or 0.5 directly beneath the product name. If your pet has had long term ear problems I recommend you go right to the Otic 1.0 solution. If it is a fairly new problem, you might try the Otic 0.5 first. Both products are superior to any other we have ever tried, including those written in prescription form from the vet, combined with antibiotics. Hope this helps. Good luck with your pets ear problem. We have used the Otic 1.0 on our dog pretty regularly for a couple of months now. It will not cure the problem, I do not believe anything will, but it does keep her comfortable and the problem under control. She stops shaking her head the way dogs do when their ears are bothering them, after just one use.

Is the consistancy of this product like a gel or is it watery?

It is slightly more viscous than water, but a lot less than a gel.  I've tried the watery kind and the gel kind and I find the gel difficult to get into my Basset Hounds' ears.  My Bassets are seniors and, like most heavy/floppy-eared breeds, have been plagued with chronic ear infections, so I am constantly looking for the best way to get and keep their ear folds and canals clean without exacerbating the problem by leaving them too wet after cleaning. The antimicrobial agent and the drying agent, along with the ease of administration, make this the absolute best ear cleaning product I've used. I plan to order the twin pack soon.
