Used this to start charcoal grill. Super fast! Can't wait to try them in fire pit. Well worth it.

This is rare, I normally burn two to three fir starters to get a fire fully going, but theses were different. I use them for an outdoor fire pit and love how easily and quickly they light and start fires. I've used them three times, and have yet to use more than one to get a fire going! I was also surprised at how long they last as well. I love that they're waterproof and odorless as well. I plan on taking these with me when I go camping for quick guaranteed fires.

DESCRIPTION:This is a box of 72 fire starters, composed of pine wood shavings combined with a wax core.————————HOW I USED IT:I have four uses:1. A conventional living room fireplace, to light bio-bricks (compressed sawdust). When used in a conventional fireplace with an open grate, it is best to place a piece of cardboard down first (I use the side from a cereal box). This will keep the molten wax from dripping down through the grate, and keep the fire where it needs to be - up against your fuel.2. Woodstove, to light hardwood fires. Here I roll up one of the fire starters inside a page of newspaper, to make a long narrow roll between two logs.3. Outdoor fire pit, where I also roll up one of the fire starters inside a page of newspaper.4. Campfire at campgrounds.————————PLUS:These are surprisingly small. The box of 72 easily fits in our camper and will provide several years' worth of fire starts. One match is all that is needed to get them going. I have just used one each time.There are no chemicals, only a wax binder.————————MINUS:The only minus is that the wood shavings tend to be a little loose, and you may lose a few shavings carrying them between bag and fire. Bring the bag to the fireplace first to minimize this.————————MY RATING: 5 stars for a nice box of starters.

I used these to get my fire pit started, and it was great. I actually was using a magnesium fire starter kit (practicing for making fire on Survivor,) and these started right away after getting the initial sparks going. It burned well enough for me to add more and build up to full on logs relatively quickly.And for the price, it is a good amount of them.

I make my own fire starters out of cardboard carton and wax. I wanted to try these as a comparison. I found these burn for a long time allowing any damp material to dry out enough to get a fire started. They light easily and I have found they do not leave any residue; and are therefore appropriate for tabletop fire pits. The $19 price tag for 72 of these goes a long way and saves a lot of time waiting for the start of a good fire.

If you're planning to put these directly under a mound of charcoal and use them to get coals going for grilling / smoking, I wouldn't necessarily recommend them for that. They need a good amount of air to get and stay lit. If you're using a charcoal chimney (which has a good amount of air underneath it), they'll be fine for that purpose.

These are small but burn well enough to get the coals going in my chimney starter. You might find that you need more than one, but there are so many in this package that it isn't an issue. They appear to be a mix of wax and wood shavings mixed together, and do crumble a little bit.
