WORKS A TREAT
Having tolerated several very blunt knives for too long, and failing to sharpen them successfully using a sharpening stone, I decided to look around for alternatives. There followed several weeks of looking at reviews for rolling knife sharpeners, ranging from the ridiculously expensive Horl, down to the cheap Chinese knock-offs. Reviews were not good for the cheap ones, saying they do not roll freely and the magnets are weak, which is dangerous. I settled on the HONE as I liked the reviews and liked the idea of it being made somewhere other than China. I am so glad I bought one. First impressions: the roller is heavy and feels high quality and the ball bearings mean it rolls freely with no resistance or skidding. Although I have not used any other makes, from the pictures, it does appear that the barrel is also longer than other makes, allowing you to keep your hand well away from the upturned edge of the knife; a safety plus. The magnets are super strong, and quite some effort is required to separate the knife from the block; another safety plus. The discs are removeable and reversible, so you have twice the life and can replace them if they wear out, again, a feature not found on the cheaper knock-offs. My knives were very blunt so I gave them 100 passes on each side and with each of the two discs (Course and fine), that's 400 passes total. It took about 10 minutes per knife but by the end each knife passed the paper and ripe tomato tests. My knives are Santoku Damascus steel so very hard, yet the HONE brought them up to a very sharp condition. A 2nd sharpening some 2 weeks later and they are even sharper. These rolling sharpeners take the guesswork out of knife sharpening and at £100, the HONE is probably towards the pricier end of the market but worth every penny in my view.

An excellent knife sharpener.
I’ve always struggled to sharpen my kitchen knives and over the years I’ve tried many different methods. I found sharpening by hand using whetstones too difficult to get consistent results, the Lansky method too laborious, and pull through and electric sharpeners not good enough. So I thought I’d give a rolling sharpener a go and decided to try the Hone. It’s just perfect for me. It’s easy to use, sharpens quickly and efficiently to an excellent level of sharpness. Certainly more than adequate for my needs. A great piece of kit. If your looking at a method/tool to sharpen your kitchen knives to a high standard - don’t hesitate to consider the Hone sharpener.

Great product...
Great product After much frustration with various knife sharpeners, i undertook a lot of research into "rollers". There are loads of cheap knock offs and the expensive original Horl (Germany). Having looked at many Youtubes, the Hone systems looked best in class and although not cheap, it is a good price point. I have rated it 4 not 5, in truth 4.5 would be better. The magnets great and hold knife in correct angle, making it really easy to get it right. Plus point - it holds short and long knives in two different slots. If your knives are blunt - really important to follow the three steps: coarse disc > fine > super fine (ceramic 3000). I found it easy to get sharp. But I'm struggling with "razor sharp" - you see the videos of slicing paper held in fingers. I asked for the ceramic 3000 disc to go with the standard model to see if could improve. (This was sent FOC, just posting). In my view - the ceramic should be part bundle with all units! Rather than focus on the number of passes, I found it much easier to listen to the sound. First pass is very scratchy.....then it gets smooth when you get onto the ceramic - it quickly loses sound and glides almost like going through butter. Been in contact with Hone customer services (excellent - reply to emails quickly and professionally). They say the ceramic should give razor-sharp cut through paper. I'm still not sure. Many sites insist this is a down to the quality of steel and the final use of a leather strop. At some stage I buy a strop and test. For now, happy just to have sharp knives. Overall is the Hone worth the investment? If you have lots of knives and you want something that is easy and frankly almost foolproof - this is the tool. If you want razor-sharp - You might still need to use a leather strop.

A great knife sharpener.
Bought April '25 for £49.00 which included a 29% discount. After trying to sharpen knives by using other methods and getting inconsistent results, I decided to try using this system by Hone. This is so easy to use and the results are great. Hone have included some unique design features that other systems don't have. Easily reversible double sided discs held in place by magnets, metal bearings (which have protected covers, unlike in the photo) that give the roller added weight, long lasting and a smooth operation. The block holds the knives in place securely using two strong magnets on each side and two sides designed to hold smaller knives such as paring and even pocket knives and doesn't move when using the roller. It even has a groove on top to park the roller when not in use. Overall I'm impressed with design, quality, ease of use and the end results.

Fast, very effective and easy to use.
Had bought a cheaper version earlier which was OK, but it took ages to make knives sharp. There had to be a better way - but not at the BMW price of the German market leader, Not prepared to pay that. So I took a bit of a chance on the Hone at under half the price and it paid off. Excellent product that works fast, efficiently and is really easy to use. The base unit is particularly well designed with with two angles (15 and 20 degrees) but four sides - two being specifically designed to support smaller knives, with the usual two for larger knives. Magnets are well positioned and reassuringly strong. Double-sided high-quality rotating diamond honing plates also make for a very cost-effective product. Rate this product very highly indeed.

I've been getting a ton of Facebook ads for a rolling knife sharpener lately, so naturally, my curiosity got the better of me …. att first, I was tempted to buy it right away, but I thought, "Why not check out some comparison videos first?" Thank goodness I did. The original sharpener from Germany looked top-notch but was way out of my price range….. the one that kept appearing in the ads had a flood of negative reviews talking about it jamming after a while, which was a huge red flag for me. As I continued my search ….. I stumbled upon some videos featuring the HONE Knife Sharpener. The reviewers' positive feedback caught my attention, so I decided to take a leap of faith and purchase it. The return policy and 10-year warranty on manufacturer’s website gave me some peace of mind, just in case it didn't live up to the hype. Well, let me tell you, this sharpener exceeded my expectations. I've never had knives this sharp before. The company's claims were spot on. It's incredibly easy to use, with a solid, heavy-duty build. The two-sided reversible discs are a fantastic feature, making the whole process quick and effective. My knives are now sharper than ever before – almost frighteningly so. It's made cooking so much more enjoyable and fun, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. If you're thinking about getting one, I say go for it. You won't regret it.

I had seen a review of the Hone on the Zsa.io blog because I had bought one of their keyboards. I had been wanting one of these types of sharpeners. Since Zsa had mentioned how much they liked it I decided to give this one a try. I am not disappointed. This is a really good and easy to use sharpener. I have several different kinds of sharpeners including Japanese Naniwa whetstones. Those are really nice and they will get your knives extremely sharp. My problem with them is that I tend to scratch up my blades when I sharpen them. I don't really care, but I do have a knife with a nice pattern on the blade and I was hoping not to ruin it. I had been holding off on sharpening it for that reason. With this sharpener, the sharpening disks only ever touch your knife edges. They never touch the flat of your blade. And since the roller is on ball bearings it's very smooth and you can get a really fast rhythm going. This is good since it makes the sharpening much less of a chore. A few other things I like about it: - It feels very heavy and well made. - The sharpening disks are replaceable. You can buy other ones with varying coarseness on their website. I don't think any other rolling sharpener has this ability except for a very expensive one I had been looking at. - The holder is very practical. Each side is used for a different purpose. 2 of the sides are for 15 and 20 degree big and normal sized knives. The other 2 sides are for 15 and 20 degree small knives. I tried it with my paring knife and it works great. Looking at the holders of competing rollers, I don't think you can use them with small knives in any practical way? The knives would slide around too much since magnets are the only thing holding them to the rubber. - It comes in a gift worthy magnetic closing box. Inside the box there's text that recommends you keep the box and use it to store the sharpener and holder. It says it will keep other things safe from the magnets when sealed in the box. This seems true since the box is really well padded with foam on the inside. - Finally, the price is very reasonable. The only thing I would recommend that they improve is that they should include instructions in the box, or even just a QR code to online instructions on the "thank you" card that they include in the box. I have to admit I looked at the knife holder and it took me a while to make heads or tails of it. It isn't obvious what the sides are to someone who hasn't seen pictures or a video of it in use. They are labelled 15 and 20 but I didn't know some sides were for small knives, other sides are for large. I realize now the Amazon listing has a video... But most videos on Amazon are terrible and a waste of time so I have to admit I don't usually watch them, and I didn't watch this one haha.

I've tried various knife sharpeners over the years, but the HONE Rolling Knife Sharpener feels solid, and the rolling mechanism glides smoothly along the work surface, making sharpening effortless. What I love most are the diamond-coated discs. The #400 grit is perfect for restoring dull edges, and the #1000 grit leaves my knives razor-sharp. Having both a 15-degree and 20-degree angle is another great thing about this. I can sharpen everything from chef's knives to smaller utility blades with precision. The magnets hold the discs and knives securely in place and It’s also super easy to clean and maintain, thanks to the detachable disc system. In just a few passes, my knives went from dull to slicing through vegetables and meats like butter. If you're looking for a reliable, well-designed sharpener that delivers professional results, the HONE Rolling Knife Sharpener is it! Highly recommend it to any home cook or knife enthusiast.

Ive tried a variety of beginner knife sharpening methods over the years, including pull throughs, whetstones, the rod systems. Never found them beginner friendly and had a hard time maintaining a consistent angle. Therefore i was really interested in rolling knife sharpeners. I looked around for a while and watch a lot of youtube videos before I found the Hone. It looked well made and so i gave it a shot. I just got it and have already sharpened half of my kitchen knives. It is so easy to set up and use. It is well packaged and well made. It feels great in your hand and rolls very smoothly. The magnets hold the knife securely. The feature for small knives is very well designed. I love the idea of having interchangeable discs. Overall a very well built and designed quality product with a fair price especially compared to others on the market.

Easy to use and works really well. I had several very dull knives and this sharpener brought them back to a sharp edge in minutes. It feels solid, is safe to use, and gives consistent results every time. Great value for the price and a must-have for any kitchen. Highly recommend.
