Thus far, this has been a real life saver. When you hurt/strain your lower back, every morning is torture because your back stiffens up and the pressure of getting up and lifting yourself out of bed puts a strain on it. It you put this brace on first thing in the morning, it takes most of that pain away. I also used it with the cold/hot pack insert which transmitted the cold right through and the pack itself seems to be pretty high quality... the cold lasted for well over an hour. It's simple to use and easily adjustable. I found it comfortable to wear over an Underarmor shirt, which cuts down on sweat.

I brought this for my son who was complaining of back aches. He said it helped tremendously.

The ice pack feature is great, no doubt. But there are stronger/more firm braces out there. If you don't want the ice pack, I would recommend a different one.

My background: I have chronic pain from severe back injuries. I broke 4 bones in my back after getting thrown from a horse I had no business training. “Rodeo breaks.” The bones never healed. So there are bone fragments moving around when I move. Over the past 20 years, my back has worsened to the point that I’m in a wheelchair at times. I have a service dog for mobility, a neuromuscular implant for pain, have had many epidurals, nerve blocks, PT, acupuncture and anything I thought might help. The things I’ve bought are embarrassing. Some are ridiculous, but if you have chronic pain, you’ll try anything. If you identify with any of this, take a look at this brace. It will give you a tool to use to keep an acute stage from coming. You can tell sometimes that your back is especially unstable. Even rolling out of bed can be “that thing” that happens and you are in trouble. If you have something that supports your back until it’s not so unstable, you can avoid some really bad stuff. This brace is the perfect amount of support to let your back settle down. I have a brace that my doc ordered for me. It has a metal insert. Not flexible at all. For acute times, I’m grateful for it. It will keep discs and vertebra from slipping. I have 4 vertebra that have slipped on top of each other. This gentler brace has built in supports on the sides. I’ve never seen crossover Velcro like these. It’s a bit confusing at first. That’s all I’ll say. You’ll figure it out. But you can adjust it to the level of support you need. If you have chronic pain and acute times that are excruciating, you’ll love this brace. Sometimes, I know my back is unstable. This brace will keep an acute stage from happening. The brace my doc ordered can be too harsh. There is a definite place for the brace my doc ordered. But not every single day. When I take the harsher one off, the thing that I’m trying to avoid with my back…happens. One giant spasm as soon as the brace comes off. Then I’m bedridden for several days. Needing help to do anything. It’s a slow process to heal. I feel like this brace has been the tool I’ve been missing.

I am a bigger girl, and this brace is perfect for me. It is very good quality material; I love that it has a place for the ice pack. I wear it with and without the ice pack. I have been using this for a few months and the velcro is still just as strong as it was.

The "loop" side of the Velcro is essentially a one-time use. Over the course of three weeks of intermittent use, every time I remove the brace and put it back on I have to find a new spot of unused "loop" or the "hook" side won't stay attached, making this useless after a while. The "hook" side still seems to work fine on other "loop" fabrics. Otherwise, this brace is great. The center lumbar support and the stays really do support my back well and serve as a gentle reminder to correct my posture if I slump. It is comfortable to wear when sitting, standing or laying down. Whether it will offer pain relief probably depends on the individual and their injury. I don't think it gave much pain relief for me, but that is likely not due to the brace, but the nature of my injury. For someone else, there may be pain relief. If they changed the Velcro closure material to something that will last a lot longer, this would be 5-stars for me.

I absolutely love this back brace. I wasn't sure I would, when I ordered it, what with the thick leather-encased spine support, whether the hot/cold packs were gimmicky, whether it was both effective but comfortable to actually wear. Well, it is comfortable, and also quite effective. The leather support in the back does not dig into your back as I'd worried it would, and the hot/cold packs are anything but gimmicky, they're surprisingly effective, they're good quality packs, and you get two! On top of that, you get the optional band for using just the packs but don't need it if you wear the brace, it has it's own pocket for them. This has it all. The only question is how long it lasts, but I don't see why it wouldn't. Highly recommend. Updating review to drop it one star, as the velcro in the front just isn't holding anymore. It's very weak velcro, and frankly, rather annoying to deal with. I might just epoxy some 'real' velcro on the end of the straps rather than replace the otherwise awesome brace, as it seems most braces use this poor velcro for some reason.

I bought it for my back pain. It holds very good and provide sturdy support to my back during walking. The width is also good.
