This is a great book! It definitely helped my daughter with reading comprehension. She's an avid reader but the comprehension part was missing. It has helpful exercises that really help her to understand what the reading passages are all about. I definitely recommend this if you want to see an improvement on your child's standardized test scores!

I purchased this workbook for my little brother to work on over the summer. It's filled with well-written stories along with questions to practice reading comprehension. For the most part, it was great, but some things bugged me. For example, the vocabulary questions doesn't test a child's observation skills (ie: looking around the vocab word for clues of what it may mean). They instead test a child's prior knowledge, so if my brother didn't know what the vocab meant, he would need to look it up in a dictionary rather than be given key words in the passage. In all, the workbook was pretty decent. It was good practice for my brother, and I won't hesitate to recommend it.

I thought this was a good quick book to keep your kids minds going during the summer. One page read and 5 questions about what they read. My son thought the topics were interesting and didn’t take him long so didn’t feel like homework! 😆

This book helps with reading comprehension for my struggling students

I purchased this for my 11-year-old son who is home-schooled. He has ADHD and his attention to detail/reading comprehension skills are horrendous. The book advertises that it "includes engaging selections to entice reluctant readers." I had hoped that this book would contain brief, fun stories that would hold his attention, but also improve his retention skills when reading. The book is okay, but I found that many of the passages are boring for him. What 11-year-old boy wants to read about political history? I don't know...maybe a few, but not mine. There is a place for learning that, but I was hoping that this would be a little lighter. Also, some of the questions were confusing even for me. I've had to check the answer key just to see what they were looking for so I could explain it to him. We decided to drop doing this one because he really dreads it and try to find one with stories that appeal to him more.

The stories are quite short, but the comprehension questions are to the point. This all works for my tutoring purposes.
