Native bee and butterflies
A mason bee is a terrific pollinator. One mason bee is the equivalent pollinator of 10 European honey bees. Butterflies seek individual wildflowers. The Monarch butterfly is attracted to the swamp milkweed. I have recently added a European honeybee hive to the property. Native bees flourish as ground bees are prevalent. We have nesting Orioles, Grosbeaks, Flycatchers and Ruby throated hummingbirds. The property is full of wildflowers. Native plants abound. To this end the above book is a great resource.

Extremely thorough book with photos of all the plants.
This is a great reference material for New England gardens, I find the arrangement of plant types is particularly useful. There are historical notes at the beginning of each entry which helps to understand where to place the plant on a time line, or why it has become common, or why it's fallen out of most frequent use. In the latter case, it's interesting to find species or strains of common plants that are native to New England that got crowded out of gardens in the last or previous century, particularly if you'd like to reintroduce them into your garden. Also, it is very thorough - I found every plant that I was hoping to see, plus many more that I knew nothing about. The only thing I found lacking is that some of the entries didn't have specific info about what size plants will get (as in actual measurements) or what age they will get to before replacing. I may need to check an additional resource for this. However, it doesn't detract from the value of this book. Very pleased, highly recommended.

Great NE Plant Reference and Guide
Love this book! We are trying to plant more native plants in our garden. This is an invaluable resource. It describes the plants, the best conditions for growing the plants AND has very nice photos. It has been really helpful as we work to fill in space and find natives that will work in our garden. Highly recommend.
