Very helpful book
This book is very useful when trying to get up to speed on the new code. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that our state (NC) is using the 2009 International Residential Code with North Carolina amendments. Imagine that. The whole United States thought it would be good to have just one code for everybody. Then the states go and modify it the way they want to and we are back with individual state codes. Sounds like something a democrat politician would do.So the book won't help me for a few more years when NC uses the 2012 code with NC amendments. (They use an older version so they have time to write the amendments. No telling how long NC will just amend the 2009 edition)

Must Have Reference for Building Professionals
This book is targeted to any professional involved in any aspect of building (or remodeling) a home. This includes carpenters, builders, architects, plumbers and electricians.By following the well-laid out table of contents, each type of professional can see in an instant which codes have changes and by referencing the specific change, they will have a full grasp of the exact change and why it was made. The book has a full index at the back, making finding exactly what you need for any particular change easy to find. Thanks to this reference book, building professionals no longer have to flip thru page after page of the 900 plus pages of the 2012 International Residential Code book looking for the updated changes. No professional in the building trades should be without this book. By keeping up to date with the changes, code violations during inspections of any part of the home building process will be kept to a minimum - meaning the job is completed faster and payday's may be a bit heftier since less reworking will be necessary to bring the job up to code.

Excellent illustrated guide for the busy person
I don't have a whole lot of time to read through all the code books, but this one made it so quick & easy to actually understand the reason for the changes. Each code change section describes the significance and each one even has its own illustration! This book makes the reasons for the change clear.. whether it's a technical explanation of the nuts & bolts, or because the code needed to reduce confusion: "In Section R806.2. the long paragraph describing the options for determining the amount of venitlation required was deemed awkward and difficult to understand. This section has been revised to place the general rule in one clear sentence followed by the exceptions permitting a reduction in the net ventilating area."I found that this book is interesting to read, just for fun as well. One of those where, in a few minutes, you actually feel like you learned something!

An excellent quick-reference
This volume is no substitute for the complete building code, 2012 International Building Code , but is an excellent concise reference to the most recent changes. For construction personnel, especially foreman level and above: A quick reminder of the now-violations most likely to be made accidentally by workers doing it the way they always have. You might ought to read the part(s) applicable to the work they will be doing, first thing in the morning, to those who will be doing the actual labor; it could save having to rework. For the home-owner to be: Much of the material herein is understandable to the intelligent layman. The better you understand what goes into building your home, the better prepared you will be to tell what the problem is, and how to fix it yourself if you can, or if not, who to call and what to tell them, when something goes wrong as it inevitably will sooner or later. For a fuller understanding of the building codes, you might want to get Building Code Basics, Residential: Based on the 2012 International Residential Code [email protected]

Well Written
After 25 plus years as a prior residential & commercial carpenter, I was looking forward to taking a look at this book, and i was pleasantly suprised.I figured it would be boring and full of just legal stuff, but this is actually facinating reading of 285 pages, and worth the price in my opinion.Every section is well written and easy to understand. plenty of diagrams and even color pictures to guide you through every change or revision. This is a must have book to anyone owning the IRC library, or even for your comon carpenter working in the field everyday.I have almost 3 hours time looking it over and still can't put it down. Wonderful job by the writer and his team. Bravo
