Elixir 2 Lightweight Backpacking Tent

Used it about 10 times now from winter camping at 12,000ft to windy days in the high desert. Overall it’s the best tent I’ve used. Although it’s roughly 4-5lbs I have no complaints with the extra weight compared to an ultra light tent. I needed a colorado 4 season that could handle High wind and rain. I’ve been in 50+ mph wind and hours of moderate rain.. all with no issues. Can set it up solo in about 3-4 minutes. So glad I went with the 2man, spacious for storing and organizing gear. It was very important I have enough space to operate for multiple days in the event of bad weather and so far it’s been perfect.

Excellent tent! I love it and would purchase it again. It is pretty easy to put up and holds up well in rainy, windy conditions. I've used it on three trips and been happy each time. It is a huge difference from the poor quality cheap tents at the local sporting good stores. It is worth the extra money. I really love the alcove area. It works great for tucking things away that you don't want to get wet but don't want to store in the tent. It got pretty chilly in colder weather but for Summer through warmer fall temperatures this is a great tent. It has a nice big bag so it isn't hard to repack it.

I love the quality, especially the rainfly gutter to keep the rain off from seeping into the tent. The zipper is high quality and love the zipper glows at night. My favorite part of the tent is the two triangle lofts to put my things up. The head/feet mesh pockets are great but be careful not to put any sharp things behind because you can cut the exterior mesh. It is very roomy inside and I like the color, too. I like the white walls to see anything crawling and flying bugs easily. I am very pleased and it comes with a footprint! That's a plus! I have not experienced any negative issues yet.

I bought this tent last minute to take on a backpacking trip. It was this or the REI half-dome, and I'm glad I bought this tent. Compared to the half-dome, this tent was half the price, but the same quality. It is heavier than the half dome, but that's because it's made with more robust materials, aka, thicker. The REI tent is mostly netting, and should be used with the rain fly, otherwise you get zero privacy. If rain is not in the forecast, the MSR Elixer can be used without a rain fly, and once you drop the rain fly, the MSR Elixer becomes lighter than the REI tent.

Let me start by saying I’ve hiked a lot on the AT an other random places, this is not a light weight or consolidated offering for “backpacking”. If that’s what ur looking for ur in for a huge letdown. First, setup time takes more than average (ur friends will be done with their tents before you for sure) - flip side of that is stability. This tent has seen very high winds and hard sideways rain with zero issues. Take the time to stake it in you won’t be disappointed. I use this tent for multi day camping in one location only, and it works best for this due to being solid, durable, and again bc of extended setup/Tear down. If u leave the top rain doors open all the way and it rains hard the white area above the red floor and up the side will get water penetration (so keep it covered and zipped closed!) ventilation is amazing even fully zipped closed. It also retained heat well. Again, manage ur buying decisions carefully I have a cot in it for only myself and it barely fits, I’m 5’10 175lbs and I wouldn’t want my wife in it with me over night :)

It actually rained our second night. Very sturdy and there’s was a lot of inside storage. Hiked up the mountain and weight wasn’t a problem at all

Loved the waterproofing quality of the the rain fly. Don’t like the amount of air vents as this causes chilly mornings and evenings. However, I am 6.6 and I fit perfectly in this two man tent. I use it on the Pacific Crest Trail and can highly recommend for it’s perfection against the elements and easy setup as it is freestanding once you place the poles in. Just be careful with the tension on the poles as takes some wizardry to twist and turn to get the poles in there holes Just make sure you have a really warm / good sleeping bag.

Goes beyond my expectation. I should have got 3 person tent for 2 people and a kid.

2年前に、前室のペグ留めポイントが1箇所の2017年モデルを購入。40から50泊、主にキャンプ場で使用してきました。ハバハバNXと悩みましたが、真冬にも使用するため、本体のメッシュ部分が少なめなこちらにして正解、ひどく寒いということも、極端な結露もありません。ウレタン防水コーティングの劣化はやはりあります。特に地面からの湿気に始終さらされるフットプリントは、早くもベトベトで使いたくないレベルになりました。モンベルのステラリッジ2-2011年モデル用のグラウンドシートが、奥行きが4cm大きいだけで、四隅のペグ留めループだけ長さを合わせてやればバッチリ使えてお薦めです。フライシートや本体のコーティングは少ししっとりした程度でまだ大丈夫。ハバハバNXより3割ほど重いですが、バイクキャンプでもじゅうぶん許容範囲です。 購入して3年半後追記： 100泊以上は使いました。フライシートだけは、シームレステープは劣化して粉のように剥がれてきます。ガムテープの粘着力を利用して完全に剥がしきり、社外品のシームレステープで貼り直し。フライ全体のウレタンコーティングがほぼ効力を失い表が濡れれば裏も水で光る状態なので延命でしかありません。しかし、本体は全然傷んでいないので晴れならまだ使います。「加水分解といえばMSR」は確かに証明されましたが、コストパフォーマンスで考えたら凄い逸品です。雨天に備えて遂に別のテントも追加で買いましたが、このテントの張った時の美しさ…デザインもそうですがどこもダブつかずにビシッと建つ設計の良さが捨てがたく、ついついこっちを使ってしまいます。

Looks so well made! Looking forward to lots of use. Edit- June 2025, so about 6 years of regular use i.e. 300 nights out! Very good kit, reliable and no broken poles so far. Light enough to carry on a bike too.

Wir haben uns das Zelt für unseren Schweden-Urlaub gekauft. Das Zelt ist super schnell aufgebaut und total durchdacht mit den leuchtenden Reißverschluss-Zippern, den Verstautaschen. Haben auch in einer lauen Sommernacht ohne Überzelt geschlafen, was absolut super ist. Das Zelt ist für 2 Leute passend (es passen genau 2 Isomatten nebeneinander). Das nächste Mal würde ich das 3-Personen-Zelt kaufen, aber die Entscheidung habe ich selber getroffen.
