Works surprisingly well
I got this to use with my R8 for a trip to Yellowstone. I used it with a rented EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II. It matches the black plastic of the camera body pretty well. The extended grip size helped me keep a secure hold with the heavy lens. Battery life was good. I never ran out of power even taking hundreds of photos each day. I used genuine Canon batteries and also 3rd party batteries (although I never mixed the two). No problems either way. The functionality of the extra portrait shutter release was very helpful too. This grip was worth the money, and I've decided to keep it on the body going forward. The only issue is that I have to remove it to swap memory cards. But the ability to pull images thru WiFi mostly negates that problem for me. If you have to swap cards often, then putting this on and off could be annoying. For me it's fine.

Makes my R8 easier to hold
I have larger hands and adding this grip gives me more comfort when shooting. Any extra weight or bulk is trivial to me. I verified the features work as claimed including the vertical shutter button and in camera charging of both batteries. While it is quite easy to remove the grip to access the card I find it much more convenient to just Bluetooth or Wifi download. The On/Off button on the grip only controls the remote shutter button for vertically oriented usage which the product description does not adequately state. The instruction on how to remove the camera battery door is inadequate. It does not even mention the release slider mechanism. Once you know this it just takes 2 seconds. The battery door storage in the grip is appreciated. I bought a decoded battery and when paired with the OEM the camera shows battery life properly. I do find myself paying more attention to the leveling viewfinder display as I seem to be naturally holding the camera a few degrees off. All in all I am very satisfied.

Great alternative to name brand battery grip.
It is a great alternative from the Canon branded battery grip. I love that. I can shoot with two batteries now and more time to shoot. It is perfect for the Canon R8 as well. The quality of the build is top notch. And especially only for $60 it’s great. The only downside I would have, but this is nothing against the battery grip is that you have to take it off completely to access the SD card. But overall, it’s a good battery grip for its buck.

Great buy
Great piece of gear. Cheaper than canon but just as good. Extends the time you have for photos. The second shutter button comes in handy even though you have to use a wire. It makes the camera bigger and easier to grip, feels good in the hand. Definitely a good buy.

Good for the price
Works with 3rd party batteries and canon original batteries feels good in hands. worked perfectly for a 12 hr shoot. I would recommend if u looking for a cheap grip.

The battery grip works well. One minor thing though, insert the 2 batteries into the grip first, then attach the grip to the camera. This will ensure that you get full bars on the battery level indicator. If you insert the batteries after connecting the grip, the battery indicator will only display half of the bars. (Canon R8 only. The Canon EOS RP does not appear to have this issue)

It works without any issue. Setting it up is very easy. R8 recognize the battery without any issue even though used third party batteries. Good value for money. 5 stars for its hazle free setup. Somehow my R8 became uncomfortable heavy after attaching the battery grip (could be due to 2 batteries and the grip).I would rather carry extra battery in the camera bag than a heavy camera. As far grip fucntion, built and ease of setup and use, 5 stars.

If you have an R8 you need this. Easy to assemble, it is compatible with the camera. Get those extra batteries! It does have glitches with the non-canon batteries displaying the load of the battery. Not a big deal, but it's something worth mentioning!
