As fast as advertised. Small. High quality. Your USB port matters.
So impressed by this little SSD. It is very fast, compact, and well made. My quick benchmark shows that in a USB 3.2 Gen 2 or USB4 port, the speeds are within 1.5% of the advertised speed on sequential reads and 3% on sequential writes. In real world use, it seems just as fast. As the product page states, if you are using a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port, the speed does drop, but is still fast for an external device. An older USB 3.0 port will also be slower than the device's top speed. Essentially, unless you have a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port, your speed with this device will be limited by your port. As impressive as the read speeds are, the write speeds are even a bigger pleasant surprise. The Fit drive I am replacing with this SSK SSD, which I was happy with, does random writes at 10% of the speed of this drive. The small size of this device is also a benefit as it does not block adjacent ports. The metal construction gives it heft and a feeling of quality. The moveable USB-C connector cover works well though it does not "seal" that end. The cap on the USB-A end fits well and has not come off when carrying the drive. I actually was looking for a fast Fit drive for a standalone Linux install, but could not find one reliably fast enough in a size larger than 256gb. Though I'd rather have something like a Fit that can be left plugged into my notebook and left there, the SSK's performance has me more than willing to sacrifice size for speed.

Tiny and Mighty Flash Drive
Tired of those average flash drives... Yes! The ones with limited space and take forever to transfer all of your files? Say no more! With its 128GB to 1TB capacity and USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface, which offers read and write rates of up to 460MB and 360MB, respectively, the SSK External Flash Drive completely alters that. It's ideal for on-the-go use because it can be slipped into your pocket or attached to your key chain. This gadget is incredibly versatile, making it ideal for storing and playing documents, videos, and images in one location. Overall, this should provide consistent performance, while some people may discover different to comparable results. Several people have mentioned that this drive becomes hot, but exactly how toasty does it get? In the last two images, I recorded the base temperature 5 minutes after first plugging it in, which was 32°C. Then, I thought it wouldn't have made sense to take recordings of the tempture during the first test, so I ran two full tests with 9 runs per each SEQ (SEQUNTIAL) and RND (RANDOM) read/write of the 16 GB as a drive burner, each test taking about 10 minutes. During the second test, I recorded the temperature at 51°C which was its peak but hovering more around 50°C. However, in just a matter of one to two minutes its already cool due to its Zinc alloy outer coating. If your worried about the dual USB A and C ends not having the same speeds, have no worries! I ran both ends into the back end of my B450-F Gaming Motherboard which has USB A and C 10Gbps ports. The speeds have about 1% deviation in speeds if none at all since these tests aren't perfect, meaning the storage chips are slower than the interface so for complexity reasons in this review I've chosen to keep it simple. For anyone in search of a reliable pocket-sized device that offers both high speeds and large storage capacity, this is definitely the one to consider. Its performance is unmatched, providing fast data transfers and handling demanding tasks with ease. Whether you're backing up large files, running high-capacity tests, or need quick access to your data on the go, this device delivers consistently. There are virtually no alternatives on the market that offer the same combination of speed, durability, and storage in such a compact form. It's a game-changer for those who need portable, high-performance storage.

Nicest flash drive I've ever owned
Nicest flash drive I've ever owned. I use it to back up my computer's operating system, as a bootable disk. It has saved me from losing all my data. Reliable. Heavy duty. Elegant. Quality made. Highly recommend.

Small, fast external SSD, easy to use for data or OS
This small external SSD works well for a portable operating system. After downloading Ubuntu 24.04 LTS ISO, i installed it using Rufus. Booting to that drive worked flawlessly, as fast as an internal SSD (~20 seconds total), on the PC on which the OS was written, and it also works well in general on other PC's (though drivers specific to one machine might not always work on another, I've found no major issue, so far). The SSD also functions for high speed data transfer via "sneaker net", and throughput might rival that of a LAN. Overall, I fell it's a good value, and I regret, a bit, accumulating slower flash USB drives.

Works good with the down side of it getting hot to the touch.
It does what the description says. It's easy to use, good storage and good value for your money. With that being said my only complain is that it gets hot to the touch and i didnt like that.

Speed was as advertised - rare - and durability outstanding
I just bought two USB gen 2 sticks from different vendors. This one claimed to be reading at speeds of 550 MB/sec, and I was leery. So many items never live up to their own hype. Well I have a slick tool now to measure such things, and this **delivered**. I am using EaseUS DiskMark which is part of their Partition Master Professional app. Sure enough it slightly *exceeded!!!* 550 MB on Sequential Read. For those newer to drive speeds in general, Sequential Read is the fastest (and so the metric companies claim), followed by slowing Random Read, Sequential write, and Random write (writing is just slower). Poor quality sticks often have a decent Read speed, that they use to market it, but terrible write speeds. This stick delivered! Its worst stat, random write, had only dropped to around 400 MB/sec which is an outstanding number and lack of the usual degradation in speed. Top marks. But the stick itself is a joy, almost space age. This stick has the feel you could whack it with a hammer all day. Ive had metal thumb drives before but the aluminum never felt sturdy. whatever alloy this is is tough as nails! In the photo, the little flip-back bar protecting the USB-C port looks pretty tiny - I assure you its no joke and *absolutely* will protect the port. Same goes for the other end and the USB-A connector cap - blast proof! The pouch for a keychain it comes with is also of high quality with a focus on durability, both in the leather-ish material, and especially the ring itself - its not going anywhere. I would have written this review just for my happiness with its speed, but the physical durability really puts it into a different category. At this price point there is just no reason to buy a cheap plastic thumb drive, and one where youre unsure of how badly it will degrade (if it even meets) its listed speed. This delivers on all fronts and is so robust it will last a lifetime. Slap it on that key chain, it can handle the abuse. drop it on the floor, stomp on it, no effect (im not joking). Absolute GEM of high quality mixed with durability and speed. This brand is now up there with Kingston and Samsung in my book (which is a long list of buying cheap disappointments)

Lightening Fast | Solid and Well Built Thumb Drive
RE: SSK 256GB Dual USB C Flash Drive, 2-in-1 Type C+ USB A 3.2 Gen2 Solid State Thumb Drive This is a great quality flash drive and convenient to have both USB-C and USB-A plugs available. The USB-C end has a hinged cover that protects the plug but stays on the device when in use. They should have done something similar on the USB-A end. I really hate removable caps that you have to keep track of and which can easily get lost. However, the drive transfers at lightening speeds and I'm well pleased with my purchase. I'm using it with a desktop PC, AMD Ryzen 9 7940 processor in a USB4 (USB-C) port. The thumb drive has a well built metal casing that's sleek and attractive but also smooth and slippery which can make it difficult to hold on to, which is why mine unexpectedly took to flight one day making a crash landing on the hardwood floor. It survived with its data intact, luckily, and not even a dent. 😊
