When you need a little stability
First thing - check your sizing carefully. The size chart isn't bad, but body type could affect the fit. If you need one now, as in the case of an injury, get two sizes and return one if you have to. This is a great product for my needs, just don't be me when selecting the size. That said, this was very helpful when my boy tore his knee and I wish I'd already had it ready to go. I was surprised at the weight at first, but found it was primarily from the three point strap used to connect to a front harness. I'll get back to that. Without that it is fairly light weight but feels durable. It is a canvas type material with typical web straps, mostly padded. The sizing was OK but again, is also subject to body type. I ordered according to both measurement and weight range. It worked but if I hadn't needed it right then may have exchanged for the next size down. No real cons or criticisms, but here are things to keep in mind. It always seemed the leg straps could be a little tighter but the padded sleeve wouldn't allow any more shortening. But I really liked the padding on the leg straps, so again it will just depend on your dog and the reason or frequency of use. My main use was the handle to add stability on uneven ground, take a little weight off when he did his business, and give a little lift when hopping a small step into the house. The padding on the leg straps always looked a bit bulky but it gives and didn't get in the way of nature's call. It didn't affect his walk/hop and he largely ignored the whole thing. He often ignores me too though, and just isn't phased by much. Which brings me to the next point. If you're looking at this, you probably already need it. It can be difficult to get adjusted so find somebody to help if your dog can't stand for long. Oh, and it's not the type that can be left on all day. I did find myself wishing it could to help him stand up, but he was usually half way up before I could get to him anyway. Once adjusted and you're familiar with thw clasps, it doesn't really take much longer than a regular front harness. If you're looking at this because you see a future need, don't wait. Get it adjusted and let your dog get used to it, especially if they're not as nonchalant as mine. Back to the removable straps. The heavy piece is just another adjustable web strap that has a metal clip on each end and one in the middle. The weight came from the clips which, in my opinion, were much bigger than necessary. The clips are metal, which is certainly durable, but very large. My understanding is that the whole thing was meant to attach the harness to a front harness. With no real weight bearing, it seems to add alot of weight and I didn't like the idea of something hard bouncing against his back. Again, this was an injury so he was hopping. It may not be an issue for a dog that's getting weak or unstable but not limping. However, the harness will slide off without another attachment. I have a male so initially used the belly strap. This was a great idea in that it is a rigid (but padded) strap molded with a curve so as to not put pressure on boy parts. It held the harness on without the three point strap, but I found it was a tad too big both in length and width. Another sizing vs. body type consideration. I still think it's a great idea though. It would be nice if there was a regular soft strap for females included or as an option because it will slide off without it. In the end, I improvised using a small camera bag strap that had plastic clips at the ends and added a small metal clip from a lanyard to the middle. The ends attached to the harness with the middle clip attached to his own front harness. That's all it took to keep it from sliding off. All that said, my modifications were due to probably getting the wrong size, but the harness itself works great. Glad I have it now just in case and don't see any reason to look for something else.

Like an IKEA instruction manual
First put aside the leashes. Measure dog’s tummy and adjust the straps to go around tummy. Note: on my product one strap was about two inches longer, so unlike pulling the straps of a backpack, I pulled each strap to my dog’s tummy’s measurements making sure the protection pad is dead center to the penis. Note!!!! tummy protection pad is for both male and female!!! It does not come off. The tummy protection pad has a velcro slit. Pull that apart and remove the PLASTIC INSERT that is curved to protect penis. It is Basically a jock cup. There are so many buckles all black! it gets very confusing, especially if you have a wiggly dog or late at night. At first I marked the tummy strap buckles (see foto 2) with pieces of duct tape, and later will tag them in different color waterproof markers. In the first foto there is a fifth buckle!!! A bit confusing. It is located below the O ring on the right side of the handle (handle and logo facing dog’s head). That buckle is for your dog for peeing. When they need to pee, Unbuckle tummy strap, click it to this particular buckle, pee, unhook, then reattach to correct buckle. Haven’t used it yet as my dog is OK during the day in and out, needs this product mornng, in and out ofcar. Too bad the buckles can’t come in different colors. Most of the confusion would be gone. If needed then deal with the leashes. Leashes Should never be attached to the product. Similar to a dog collar and leash these should be two separate issues. Most don’t attach collar with leash at the same time When you first open the box there is plethora of leashes and handles everywhere. It’s a mess. Product is good, exactly what I needed, just update instructions.

Excellent Product - has been a lifesaver!
This has been a life-saver for us. It is easy to use, our Irish Wolfhound puppy who was lame from FCE for a few months seemed really comfortable in this harness. We attached it to his front harness and I truly believe this is one reason our puppy was able to recover so quickly. It helped with his balance and it helped us tremendously in lifting a 65 pound puppy into the car and around outside to go potty. I highly recommend this product for anyone needing help supporting their dog whether it be an older dog needing a little help, or in an extreme situation like our puppy needing total support while going through the healing process. This harness is heavy duty and made of strong material. It adjusts easy and grew with my fast growing puppy. Excellent product - highly recommend.

Works as needed, but WATCH CLOSELY where harness may cause skin injury!
Use cautiously. Long story short: the inner thigh straps rubbed lacerations into our dog's inner leg and required staples to heal the wound. If the harness was too tight, I could not tell. I regret not checking the contact spots more closely and regularly, and I feel awful for injuring my fur baby. A few days ago, I would have given it 5 stars, but I've deducted 2 for the potential harm this can cause without close supervision. For several months, I absolutely loved this harness. My 12.5 yr old rescue dog (59 lbs) has early degenerative myelopathy causing her back legs to weaken. It takes all her energy to stand up and get her back legs securely underneath her without sliding and wiping out, especially on our hardwood floors. (And yes, we've tried rugs and yoga mats, but bless her heart, she's also incontinent and soils them). The towel-under-belly trick never worked well for us, and she protests at the localized pressure we'd put on her stomach when trying to assist. This harness seemed like a dream come true. I bought the back harness and clipped the "suspenders" onto her pet store front chest harness that we use in lieu of a collar. Without the front clip, the harness would slide off her butt too easily. It's nice that it was compatible with something we already had. The leg straps and belly band have done well through multiple laundry washings. I detach them from the main back piece and put them in a bra bag to give them a little extra protection in the wash. Loud and clunky, but effective. The harness works as advertised. My husband and I could easily lift our senior dog's behind for support as she gained her footing. Aside from the laceration issue, I would also advise other people with elderly dogs to plan ahead when buying this for incontinent dogs. Disposable and reusable diapers never had enough "reach" to go over the harness, and to constantly remove and re-apply the harness is a laborious process for changing diapers underneath the harness multiple times a day.

Waste of money
Too hard to fit...too many gadgets to deal with for an injured dog. A huge waste of money. It sits in the garage now, for years, collecting cob webs.Never used.

Completely changed my senior Doberman's life!
I can't sing the praises of this harness loudly enough. My large 80 lb. senior Doberman suddenly sustained a leg injury and couldn't support himself on his back legs with his bad hips. He was falling every time he tried to walk around the house and couldn't make it down the stairs by himself. I was so afraid and a towel sling just wasn't cutting it and might have given him a bladder infection. This harness was a lifesaver for us. It arrived quickly and was very easy to get him into and out of, even when he was lying down. My dog was able to go up and down stairs safely, go for walks, and even run with assistance. We used this multiple times daily for 8+ months with no noticeable wear to the harness. I thought it was a little big for him since he has narrow hips, but it worked. I was afraid that downsizing might reduce the thickness of the straps which were perfect for his weight as-is. Customer service responded to my inquiry quickly, but I decided to stick with what we'd bought. The harness couldn't stay on by itself and we didn't use the hard part that goes under the dog's belly. We had to clip it with the provided strap to his regular harness and it worked perfectly with me holding his handle in my left hand and his leash in my right. Love this product and so very thankful I found it!

Such a great product concept but needs refinement it falls off
Dogs that need this type of assistance often are partially capable of getting up and slip with loss of leg control in the rear when they realize you are coming to help them up , which could be tragic to legs or hip injuries. This product was the best I could find for a MALE german shepherd. Other wearable rear harnesses stayed on great but did not allow ample room for the dog to urinate without soaking the harness. This one fit well and the cut out for the male dogs private area is great BUT the harness needs to be designed to be wearable for practical daily use. This falls off and does not help while your dog is trying to get up and its half hanging off and your trying to help the do up with it. I hope this product is redesigned with a way to attach to a front chest harness if needed. Great if you only need it temporarily and your dog cant get up or move at all so it won't fall off.

Exactly what we needed!
Our 14 year old,100 lbs old Golden Retriever has weak back legs and knuckles sometimes when he walks. He’s having a harder time getting up from tile floors and keeping his balance. We were using a towel as a sling to support him when he really needed it, but this harness has improved his quality of life so much. He took to it right away and was on the move around the house more. It helps with bathroom walks. However, you have to be prepared to unclick the belly strap so male dogs can pee correctly. The belly strap has a removable curved cup to accommodate male dogs, but if the weight of the dog is being support by the belly strap the dog may pee on himself. The leg straps are enough support during all bathroom needs. The belly strap keeps the harness in place so he can wear it all the time while we’re home. The harness handle is perfect for large dogs as it does not get in the way like longer straps would. He is able to move around on his own and we have a handle always ready to support his backend when we need it. It does not look uncomfortable when he lays down because the harness fits loosely. While it is easier to put on him when he is standing, it’s possible to put it on while he is laying down. Even my small 11-year-old child can help him stand up and move around the house when he needs support. I think it’s given him more confidence to get up and walk because he know we can help him better. Perfect so far.
