As a first-time sourdough baker wannabe, I think I read every review of every starter kit on Amazon. I chose this one because of the great reviews, the size of the jar, the temperature gauge and the two types of lids. The jar is heavy and seems to be good quality. It has the tare weight printed on the bottom/side of jar in case you forget to tare it out prior to using. My starter is doing well in this jar. I use the cloth lid when I have it on the counter, and the silicon lid when I want to keep it in the fridge.i also like the little elastic you can use mark the level as well as the date/time of last feeding. All good stuff for a newbie to sourdough baking. Two thumbs up.

This is fantastic in every way. I bought it for my daughter, but after playing around with it with her I wanted it too. If you’re not using it you can seal it with the rubber lid that hangs out on the bottom until you need it, it comes with a breathable cloth cover with elastic in it, a plastic stirrer and scraper tool so there’s no metal touching the starter, graduated measurements up the side, a rubber band (red) to measure the starter height, and a simple way to use it to track days. Fantastic. And there’s a temperature gauge as well, although you have to stick it on the glass yourself. The glass is molded so you know right where to stick it on. Also, the edges go straight up instead of coming inwards as it does on a lot of pint jars, so it is super easy to work with and feed the starter. I looked at several, and this one is clearly more complete for helping beginning sourdough makers organize the many little yet important details of growing the starter. A great win.

So far, this has been great. It’s a sturdy glass container with a nice wide opening. The stir stick is great quality with an edge on one side to scrape the starter. I’m currently trying to make my own starter and it’s nice to have the elastic cloth top as well as the plastic top for when my starter finally is active. The band is convenient as it has the days and times. You just line it up so you don’t forget when you fed it last. The thermometer sticker that comes with it is also helpful. My starter has been taking a lot of time, but I think it’s because our house is too cool. If I didn’t have the thermometer sticker, I probably would’ve gotten more frustrated. The jar also shows how many milliliters are currently in the jar and it has a sticker on it that shares how much the jar actually weighs which is super convenient because I forgot to weigh the jar before I started the whole process. Now I will never forget! Overall, this is an excellent starter kit. I feel like it gives you everything you need. Although this is my first time making sourdough, but so far I haven’t felt like I needed anything else. (other than the scale, but I already have one of those.)

High quality product that is good for large batches of sourdough starter. I thought too big for single batch. I use the jar for other purposes or if I make multiple loaves. The spatula is excellent.

This jar is perfect for those new to creating a sourdough starter (that’s me 🤣) Everything, from the time band, the thermometer, to the skinny spatula and silicone cover, all make it less intimidating for someone just starting out! I am in the Northeast, where it is freezing and very dry right now, so I have been putting my starter inside the oven with the light on at night, when we keep our house cooler. The thermometer allowed me to see that putting the jar right next to the oven light with the oven door closed was a bit too warm, but moving the jar to the opposite side of the oven away from the light, puts it at a perfect 75-79F range. The silicone cover was the key to my starter not crusting over and preventing growth - I had reached out to Meni (CEO) and asked how to resolve the dry layer on top because it’s been so cold here, he suggested putting the silicone cover on top and it was exactly what it needed. Oh, and let’s talk about customer service…. Meni personally answered every single question I sent to him, and helped me to have a very successful first bake (yesterday) with a very young starter (12 days old at time of making bread). Between emails back and forth, and the extremely helpful walkthrough videos available (I am a ‘need to see it’ kind of person), this newbie was able to bake sourdough 🤣 I need to mention the quality of the packaging as well (for all of these products). I understand that it is not important to everyone, but I feel if a company takes time and effort (and $$$) to present their products in a nice way, it speaks volumes. The packaging is very high quality and esthetically pleasing, and it is clear that a lot of attention goes toward presentation. Quality products AND quality packaging - I have no hesitation purchasing more products from KneadAce.

This is a great jar. Wide enough mouth for easy cleaning. The two different “toppers” cover both storage & fermenting. The band lets you keep track of feed times and the rise. I’ll be ordering a second set. Also, I contacted KNEADACE with a concern & got a rapid response and the issue resolved. “Issue” was my fault. 🥴

These are a great size for once you start making your starter to bake and need a bigger quantity. But I did buy smaller containers for maintaining my starter. The kit really is great and has everything you would need.

The size is perfect. I have tried other brands where the container is smaller and the started ended up going over the jar and making a mess. I have had fabulous results with this.

Love this sourdough starter kit. Jars are large and wide making it easy to maintain your start and access.

I like having (2) to keep switching to a clean one each day I feed. So far all is holding up with daily use and hand washing.
