The King Kindling Cracker chops logs down into kindling like a boss. After years of struggling with an axe and chopping block, this year I finally succumbed and purchased the "King" size, along with the Amazon recommended 4lb lump hammer. Simply place a log on top of the blade and with an average of three taps it is split in half. Easy! Within minutes I turned a pile of logs into a stack of kindling, with very little effort (compared to the traditional axe method, anyway). The device itself is very robust, it is made of some kind of cast iron and pretty heavy. Another bonus is that it is pretty safe to use, as there is no need to swing an axe! Unlike some reviewers here, my one has a sharpish blade which hasn’t blunted after use. So, it is a good bit of kit, but I think maybe the secret to easy chopping is probably using a good heavy hammer, so my advice is to get one of them too.

So easy to use takes all the fuss out of splitting logs. Highly recommend it.

Strong sturdy well designed and well made. I have the large version. It really speeds up the process of getting firewood. Safer than an axe when getting kindling as you need to cut relatively fine. Also logs are often too thick to go straight into the log burner but you can cut them in half very easily, then reduce some further in size for your kindling. This gets the fire going faster. I did also get a 4lb steel mallet and I’m glad I did. I looked at several versions of these and although this is top end for price I have no doubts about its longevity. Probably best to get the large version Happy to recommend.

Expensive for what it is. At a basic level this is a kindling wedge with a guard. I was surprised that at over 10kg, the XL Cracker still needs to be attached to a log as it’s wobbly without, and the customer has to also buy the necessary fixings. Apart from this it works well as a kindling/log splitter.

Wow I'm really impressed with this piece of kit. We used to make our kindling arduously with a hatchet but this product makes it so much quicker and safer to produce a bin full of kindling in no time. I bought the larger size and I'm glad I did as it fits our bigger logs with no trouble and still holds them securely and safely to chop. Very good design, sturdy and nice and heavy to stay in place whilst in use. Quite pricey but worth it to save our fingers and time. Would buy as a gift in the future.

I chop lots and lots of sticks and kindling, and this kindling cracker has been a game changer! It's simple to use, splits big logs, and is a much safer method than using a hatchet. I've purchased another for my parents to use. Quickly makes a big pile of kindling...

I love this. I always had the job of cutting kindling as a child and of course there came a day when my thumb got in the way of the axe: not badly but enough to make me more careful. This omits that danger, though you still have to be careful with the hammer that knocks the wood! It splits pine and birch with ease... knotted bits take a few hammerings but they go eventually. I'm now in my sixties and still in need of kindling! This is safer and it's beautiful to look at too. I keep it in a box when cutting the wood which keeps all the bits together and kindling from straying. I gave four stars for value for money as the cost of an axe is far cheaper...but this is a very substantial and aesthetically pleasing tool to own.

Bonjour. Au déballage j’ai été surpris de la petite taille de ce fendeur de bûche au point d’avoir été vérifier sur le carton d’emballage que j’avais bien reçu le grand modèle King. A l’usage, je confirme que ses dimensions sont bien adaptées pour le job. Je commande du bois coupé à 50 cm mais certaines bûches peuvent mesurer parfois jusqu’à 60 cm. Il convient de travailler sur un sol dur et stable sinon l’énergie de vos coups va se dissiper dans le sol. Comme je n’ai pas de billot de bois sur lequel le poser, le King repose directement sur le sol. Mes bûches étant longues (entre 50 et 55 cm pour la plupart), j’ai juste besoin de fléchir un tout petit peu les jambes pour travailler à la bonne hauteur. J’utilise deux massettes, principalement une de 2 kilos, celle de 1,5 kg me sert vers la fin du fendage pour un meilleur contrôle de mon geste et éviter ainsi d’aller taper la lame du King ou pour le bois moins long et de plus faible section. Je déconseille des massettes plus légères sauf peut-être pour des bûches de petite longueur, et évitez les bûches avec des noeuds qui sont très difficiles, voire impossible à fendre. Plus le bois est sec, mieux il va se fendre. Au bout de quelques heures d’expérience, j’ai constaté qu’il faut taper très fort sur la bûche (entre 5 et 20 fois approximativement selon sa section et sa longueur) pour arriver à un résultat. Cela étant, on y arrive très bien et on a déjà chaud avant même d’avoir allumé le feu. J’imagine que ce sera beaucoup plus facile et rapide avec des bûches de 30 cm ou moins et dans ce cas on pourra même travailler assis. En conclusion, ce Kindling Cracker King est un excellent outil pour éviter de se blesser avec une hache ou de dépenser une fortune dans une fendeuse électrique. Il requiert un effort physique mais qui reste à la portée de presque tout le monde, homme ou femme. Je recommande vivement son achat. J’espère que mon commentaire vous aura été utile.

Prodotto di ottima qualità in ghisa, veramente ben rifinito (fon fregi pseudo-elfici) e perfettamente funzionante. Il peso in sè dell'attrezzo (veramente rilevante) ne facilita l'operatività. Prevedo una duratà pressochè infinita. Basterà molare la lama ( che essendo in ghisa ha una grande durezza e quindi lunga durata) per riportare l'attrezzo alla piena funzionalità. Complimenti al progettista e alla fonderia che ha eseguito il prodotto.

I bought this for my husband (for me😄😉) for Christmas as we have two wood stoves-one on the main and lower level. This thing is very well made, sturdy, heavy and a breeze to use. I’m now the official kindling maker 👍. So satisfying to see how quick and effective it is to split all manner and size of log. It’s great exercise and gets a lot of pent up energy out in a safer and more effective manner. We bought the XL since our logs have been cut larger than usual and it handles all with ease. Highly recommended!!

I'm not one to write a lot of reviews, but this one is definitely deserving of one!!! First off, I liked the story behind how this product was developed. More importantly, this is HANDS DOWN the BEST kindling maker I've ever had! It's sturdy, safe, quick, and just plan WORKS....all with minimal effort! You can make your sizes as big or as little as you want. No more hoping to hit where you want with an ax/hatchet, picking up, trying to stand the piece on end, and repeating over and over. Go with the KC King (XL) size and it'll chew through anything thrown at it! I'd say I'd order again, but with how well this is built, I'd imagine it'll be a generational hand-down type of tool, and will last. VERY impressed!!!!!!
