HOLKIE 100mm Gate Castor Wheel

First of all, this is a great gate castor. I chose this one after a great deal of comparing different makes and models, but finally settled on this due to the following factors: • Branded manufacturer that isn't suspiciously Chinese-sounding (even if the castor is, in fact, made in China) • Concealed spring - likely better to hold up to the varied British weather • Decent balance of reviews from others having purchased the same gate wheel The gate to which I fitted this weighs, I would estimate, around 30kg. It's a beefy side gate that I custom built from pressure-treated timber. The path on which the gate opens slopes slightly downwards, with a height differential of around 30mm between the position the wheel is at when the gate is closed and when it is open. I therefore wanted a castor that I could fit to the gate somewhat pre-compressed, so that on opening, the spring would de-compress (whilst still supporting the gate) as it rolled along the slight downward slope. I feel like this castor is solid, well made, and completely indifferent to the weather so far (lots of rain - some July huh?). It rolls smoothly, and attaches very firmly to the gate thanks to the three included nuts and bolts. It was also fairly straightforward to compress by hand when attaching to the gate, for the aforementioned pre-compressing of the spring. There are lots of different wheels out there. I can recommend this one if you want something sturdy, robust-looking and smooth in operation. The wheel lock is a nice extra, I don't really use it but it may be something that is essential for some, in which case that's another plus. Buy this if you want a tough, durable gate wheel.

Good product well made very reasonable price the only issue I had is that my gate is very heavy and would compress the spring I had to fit jubilee clips to stop the spring compressing and the gate dragging on the concrete. Overall good product spring could be stronger though

We bought this Gate Castor Wheel to support a heavy wooden garage door as we were concerned that constant opening and closing was putting too much strain on its hinges. It proved to be very well made and, as claimed, did indeed have a heavy duty spring. Installation was easy and it's performed perfectly over the past ~2 years. As it's used outdoors we were concerned it might rust. So far, however, it's absolutely fine. Recommended.

was expecting the spring to be a bit strong however with a little bit tinkering when fitting it did the job and is still working

Good value for money. Sturdy and It does the job well. I would have liked to have had more adjustment over the height and spring tension. It means that you have to be very accurate when mounting the wheel on the gate otherwise it’s too high or too low. To be fair though - I would probably have had to pay a lot more for that option.
