This is the best shade grass I’ve ever bought. We have lots of trees in our backyard and we’re able to keep the grass nice and green and growing. We had years of patchy grass until I found this shade grass seed, highly recommend.

First I'd like to say this is the most successful grass seed I have ever grown and the most durable. Second...PLEASE READ PRODUCT INFO BEFORE BUYING! Every negative review on here is from people who don't know what they are doing. 1st this is Northern grass. I planted this the beggining of March in MN the average temp was 50 during the day and it got snowed on twice. To the reviewer who said "it was 90 degrees and it didn't grow" duh it says to plant when it's 60-70 Also, yes some seed looks clumped or moldy it still seeds. You must WATER AND PREP SOIL. You can't just spread seed and water once. If you can't take the responsibility of caring for the seed then you must not want a good lawn that bad....also patience. Mine has been growing for months and it's still not ready. Grass grows at an average of like an inch a month or less...and this depends on temp, moisture, soil properties, sun. I water 2-4 times a day unless it rains and you need top soil...not much but you need it. So yes I give this product 5 stars because it is durable you just have to know how to care for it. This is expensive seed for a reason...it's hard to mess up it just needs some water and top soil and can't be planted in or during very hot months.Quit giving bad reviews based of you're own consumer laziness and lack of knowledge and research.

I spread this and covered it with straw, like a lot of people do, but I found that this inhibited growth. I watered it religiously at first, then simply forgot about it when I didn't see it coming up. After I got rid of the straw, it started to come up, even without watering. However, it also had some clover in it, which I wasn't crazy about.

I purchased the Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Dense Shade Mix hoping to finally get some growth in a heavily shaded, difficult area of my yard. I was initially very impressed with the product. The first phase was excellent: the seeds germinated exactly as described and surprisingly quickly. I had a beautiful, lush patch of bright green seedlings popping up, and I was thrilled that something was finally growing where nothing else would. It really seemed like this product was the solution I needed. However, despite my best efforts, the new grass struggled to mature. I was very diligent and followed the watering recommendations perfectly, ensuring the new grass had everything it needed. Unfortunately, after a few weeks, the initial thick growth thinned out significantly and a lot of the young grass ultimately died off. It simply didn't last into a durable lawn. It's a mixed bag—it clearly has strong germination power, but the staying power in dense shade wasn't what I hoped for, even with proper care. It provides temporary green, but not a permanent solution.

The product arrived in three days, and it was exactly what we needed! We couldn't be happier with our purchase and would highly recommend buying from this supplier.

Works pretty well in general main issue is the make sure you’ve got the right versio. For your yards lighting and you follow the watering directions.6

Purchased specifically for a shady area, this seed was EXTREMELY disappointing and very few sprouted. I would love to return any/all of the 8 bags we purchased, but they have been spread all over the back yard. After a few weeks of nothing, I bought Scotts Patchmaster at the hardwares store and it's growing nicely. It's easy to see that the Scotts Turfbuilder that I purchased from Amazon is still there because of all the blue seeds lingering in the dirt... Maybe it was an old batch sitting in an Amazon DC for years?
