Device works great, but the description of “what’s in the box“ is inaccurate
I have enjoyed LaCrosse products for years, and this advanced wireless weather station is no exception. It works well, easy to set up, and the display is crisp. However, the description of “what’s in the box“ is inaccurate. It states that a power adapter is included. There is no power adapter, and this device runs on batteries only. This should be corrected..

A very practical indoor/outdoor weather station
La Cross 308-1417 We've had a battery powered LCD indoor/outdoor weather station for nearly 20 years. Wanting an upgraded station, we moved the original to the back room. To stay with battery power, the La Cross 308-1417 was perfect a perfect fit. It displays, very clearly, barometric pressure, indoor/outdoor temperature, relative humidity and forecast icons. Setup was simple and quick. Acquisition of outdoor sensor and atomic clock signals took 5 minutes. It is very easy to read all the information from 10 feet away. With simple styling, it looks good on the coffee table. While we haven't had this long enough to evaluate battery life, something to remember (for those who complain about that): Keep the outdoor sensor close by without electronic equipment or metal components between the two. Keep away from a router or other electronic emitting devices. These overwork the transmitter/reciever. Hunting for the sensor and time signals drain the batteries very quickly. Our original station batteries would last for 5 years in the same location. No reason to think this will be less. If you want outlet power (with adapter and cord), a color display or wind and rain gauge, you will pay five to ten times more. But for $35, this is a very practical tradeoff. We've had this for just over 5 years and it still functions. But, it no longer updates for daylight savings time (it's very accurate otherwise). And, the outdoor sensor has started going a little crazy, reporting 10 - 20⁰ high in the daytime (not in the direct sun) but is very accurate at night.

…but it’s accurate…
I really like this now that I’ve got it figured out. The time, temp, and humidity are accurate. It is small but very bold and legible. It is not backlit so you cannot see it in the dark. Now the problem is the barometer which is completely ill designed, though accurate. You must read it from right to left. The pressure is displayed in intervals. The furthest right position is 0 hours - the current time and measurement. You are able to tell if the pressure is increasing or decreasing by reading the curve as a whole with each bar representing the past starting at the right. There is no other plus or minus indication. Poorly conceived and difficult to understand. But accurate.

frequency is 433 Mhz
This is a great product. Just an update on the specs...It operates at frequency 433 Mhz. I don't know why they have the wrong frequency in the product description. So if you are looking to replace the transponder, this one works with any other 433 Mhz La Crosse weather stations that display temp and humidity. I needed to replace a bad TX141TH-BV. I bought this and now I'm running two displays off the same sensor.

Accurate and trustworthy
Clear to read and accurate. We have one and love it so I purchased one as a gift for a friend.

Reliable, useful display of basic weather conditions
Purchased this to replace La Crosse model WS-8025U [now discontinued] that was gifted to me years ago. This unit has most of the features I used / liked on that old unit (miss the rise & set times of sun and moon), and the display is large enough to be seen in my hallway for a casual check of the temperature / humidity when I first roll out of bed (not as big as the display on the WS-8248 [also discontinued] but you can't have everything).

Now that my anger about the packaging has subsided, it is a pretty good clock.
The 5 stars are for the clock itself. My rating for the sadist who glued the screws in that held it in the packaging wouldn't get any stars, except the ones he/she would see after I kicked the stuffing out of him/her. BUT, back to the clock ... + It is a good size for reading. + I view it at an angle, but the data is still fuly readable. + It takes three AA batteries instead of AAA, so they will last longer. + I love that it indicates the humidity inside as well as ouside. + it was easy to initially set up. I am in a location that radio signals barely reach, so I cannot depend on the atomic clock to set it. - I hope that the way the packaging screws were embedded into this one was an anomaly, and that yours unscrews easily. It took me 55 minutes to get it them out, and I have just about every hand tool made. I finally ended up nibbling away the bizarre plastic washer so that I could grip the screw head with a pair of wire cutters and break the bond to the plastic housing. Had I been able to get teh multiple layers of cardboard out from under them, I would have just left them in. I was NOT happy, but now that I am using the clock, I have calmed down.

Inaccurate and inconsistent
The accuracy of these units is pitiful. The first one I purchased I put the outdoor sensor right next to the station and had a 6 degree difference and 8% humidity difference, I didn't even attempt to see how accurate it was and returned. The second unit had temp. inaccuracy of 5~ degrees, but the humidity is off by 10-12%, however, the indoor sensor was within 3-4~ degree / %. The inaccuracies vary depending on the temperature and humidity %, however they're WAY off. If you don't care that the humidity is off by 10-15% or temp. is off by 5-8~ degrees, then get this unit. Otherwise, get a different brand. This is my 4th La Crosse, and I've discovered that they're all extremely inaccurate with no consistency. The competitors offer better accuracy and consistency.

I'm very happy with this weather station. I've found that the accuracy is very close to official measurements. I bought it with an optional Sensor Protection Shield.

Does the job fine, thanks!

I owned a La Crosse for 15+ Years until it failed this summer. Very disappointed with the quality and functionality of the replacement- not a patch on my old La Crosse. They appear to be cutting corners properly to save on costs.

I had a previous LaCrosse model I had purchased 15 years ago. It worked well and from my experience with it I knew which features I liked. In addition to the basic indoor/outdoor temp and humidity, I like that it shows barometric pressure, both current and a graph showing the trend, and it has the automatic time signal that keeps the clock sync'ed with the atomic clock at NOA in Colarado. I live in Toronto and the time signal works reliably, over night each night. This new model has those features and I found it is much easier to set up. The sync with the outside transmitter was simple. This unit does not have a colour display, but that means it can operate effectively on batteries, and does not require an AC adapter. That works very well for where I have it placed. My one (very minor) complaint is the clock does not display the seconds.
