This is a very nice machine and a great value. I have attempted to rake thatch out of my fairly large lawn over the years and it is exhausting work and only moderately effective at best. This dethatcher rakes out that much more effectively and very quickly. I used it on the highest setting (raking tines at highest setting above the lawn). The collection basket fills with thatch very quickly. I've read complaints about the baskets on these machines being too small, but I don't agree. Dethatchers are not like lawn mowers. Lawn mowers have blades that create a powerful suction that blows the clippings into the bag. Dethatchers have metal tines (like a rake) that spin on a drum. There's no way for them to blow the thatch very far into the basket. I'd say this machine does a pretty good job of that, but it backs up pretty quickly. A larger bag wouldn't make any difference. The result is that. you have to empty the bag frequently. The machine does the hard work, but there's still considerable work involved in emptying the bag so frequently. My lawn had a lot of moss growing in one area. The dethatcher pulled it out very effectively, but it filled the bag really quickly and required emptying the bag many, many times. The amount of thatch and moss was incredible and the job was exhausting. Assembly is straight forward and probably took 30 minutes. I like that it can fold down to a fairly small size for storage. Contending with a power cord makes using the machine more awkward, but that's the trade off for a very reasonable price for a 16 inch width and 15 amp power. I'm mindful that I'll probably only use the machine once each year, so dealing with the inconvenience and saving on the cost of battery powered equipment makes sense to me. I definitely recommend this dethatcher.

This machine is more aggressive than I expected. I could only use it on the highest setting without it eating up my lawn. The machine works well and its super smooth. Light weight and easy to use.

This is an awesome machine, light weight, electric, compact easy to assemble does a big excellent job. We live in the northeast and have zoysia grass which wasn’t looking great. My husband did some research and found you need to use this Dethatcher/scarifier to remove thatch, a layer of dead grass and organic matter that can accumulate on the surface of a lawn. Removing thatch improves air and water flow to the soil, promoting healthier grass growth. This is a wonderful find I would highly recommend. It appears durable and the angle bends for easy storage. We used the bag but we had so much dead grass it filled up too quickly. We decided to use the lawnmower to collect the dead grass.

This is a light weight mostly plastic machine but make no mistake, it is powerful.... I suggest new users to start in level one and see how it goes, then adjust one # at a time to avoid ripping your lawn down to bare ground....Switching from dehatcher to scarifier is very simple as long you turn the machine upside down.... Putting the handles together is simple but much easier if you get help...We removed 15 thirty gallon containers of hatch from a 5000 sqft area, that's how good this machine is....You will need to empty the bag every 10 feet or it will start to leave all the hatch behind on your lawn for you to rake....This was a great buy because of quality, performance and price....

Works great and absolutely does the job. Since it’s a plug-in, you do have to get use to working around the cord, but it’s pretty easy. The debris bag does get filled up pretty quick - so you have to stop to empty it pretty frequently - but again, it’s not that big a deal and is what you get for the cost. It the machine is awesome and has really helped my lawn thrive!!!

This product works soooo well! It’s much faster than raking and it pulls up so much more thatch. My complaint is that it is corded so it’s hard to reach all areas of my yard and I find myself trying to reposition the cord all the time. It also has a very small collection bag so I had to frequently stop (about every 15 seconds) and empty the bag because it pulled up so much. I should’ve just left the collection bag off and raked later. It is a little louder than I thought it would be, it sounds like a leaf blower to be exact. It still gets 4 stars from me, I did it yesterday before putting fertilizer down and my grass is already starting to grow and green up.

Worked great! I am brand new to landscaping but based on research, a dethatcher was what I was in the market for. It pulled so much thatch from my yard it was unbelievable. One pass through my yard pulled up all of that thatch in the final picture. It was easy to put together and did a great job. I would recommend the 16 over the 13 inch because I cant forsee any reason not to get the bigger model for a few extra bucks. I have not used the scarifier yet. I will update when I do. I am prepping my yard for the next season.
